The deadline is approaching for my contribution to a benefit called "Soul Food". Essentially they auction off art that has a food theme and the proceeds go to feed the hungry in various ways. My stuff will be photographic prints, obviously.
I had some fun with the camera last night and here is the result.
NOTE: There are 5 images here to check out - thanks.
I'm looking for helpful "challenge"-like feedback as well as any thoughts on how I should present the prints.
I want to contribute to the auction in a positive way. At home awaits 2 24x 36in frames that I had sitting around. One frame is brown, one is white. I also have debated going smaller and just buying new smaller frames at the correct aspect ratios.
Looking for input on this as well.
Should I have more than one piece?
WHich one?
Size/s suggestions? etc.
Thanks so much for any input. When DPC helps me narrow it down I might throw a few options on Facebopok to let the masses make a final decision. Although artistically, I think DPC is more helpful in most cases.
Thanks!! =)))

If your only going to do two entries, I prefer the banana and the orange butterflies. Butterflies are a great selling item with women. As far as technical merits, they all look great as far as lighting and color. Your skills are superior to mine so I can't give any real technical opinions. I would buy new frames as I couldn't see making the brown and white frames work. I would go with Black frames, and maybe black mattes, or a yellow matte for the banana and an orange matte for the oranges. But I am just brainstorming. It may not go well and you may want white or grey mattes. So I may not be helpful at all to you. Just ignore me. |

If I had to choose 2 for benefit: the orange butterflies because is very creative and the red peppers horizontal because is a classic. The brown frame for the oranges and the white for the peppers.
BTW all photos are wonderful, good luck! |

I also would go for the orange 'butterflies' and the red peppers - I feel these would have the greatest mass appeal, and people would bid on them to hang in their kitchens. |

I also like both the banana and orange slice images, but feel they need a little more work.
In the banana image, the "cloud" is way too solid and saturated, making it look more like a toxic cloud than a dream. It also renders the "dream banana" barely visible. I almost didn't notice it until I saw the larger version. Also, maybe dodge a bit of the banana to bring out some more detail, as it's on the verge of being overblown.
The orange image just needs a bit of cleaning up. There are little white specs everywhere, and the reflections are a bit distracting as well.
All this, of course, is just my personal opinion :-) |

I second these choices ... I'd also get new frames and mattes which go specifically with these, or consider mounting them on mattes only and letting the buyer choose what type of frame they want.
Very nice pictures and a worthwhile cause ... I have one image which might be suitable -- if you want it, I can email you the print file for you to print locally or you could print (at cost) from DPC Prints -- send me a PM with the info. |
