Just for fun, I kept track of voting by day for the past few challenges and, after a few quick calculations, noticed some voting trends that I thought were interesting enough to share. Of course, this sample is not all that statistically significant, so your mileage will probably vary.

Here are some of the results by each voting day:

* Lowest Voters - People who vote on day 6, followed by days 2 and 3. People who cast votes on days 2, 3, and 6 vote about 2-3 percent lower than the average voter.

* Highest Voters - Day 7. People who put off voting until the last minute vote about 8 percent higher than the average voter. Procrastinators of the world unite! You know, when you get around to it.

* Most Frequent Voters - By far, more people vote on days 1 and 2 of a challenge than any other day. The good news is that you can expect your vote to increase by 2% over the last 5 days of the challenge, thanks mostly to the aforementioned procrastinators.

* Most Comments - Days 1, 2 and 7 bring the most comments by far.

* Fewest Comments - Day 5. I didn't receive a single comment on day 5 in any of the challenges I tracked. Day 5 people suck! x-p

* The Final Tally Bump - Increase of 0.0291. I've read lots of comments from people saying that their scores always improve once the people who didn't vote on 20% of the photos are removed. My calculations showed a bump in each challenge, but it was only 0.004% on average.

Hope you enjoyed reading these statistics as much as I enjoyed entering the numbers into my spreadsheet. :-)

very interesting, i have noticed votes go up on 2nd day [when the
mature and very knowledgeable vote] !!
most comments are the last day, for me anyhow.

Well, I guess I can't consider myself either mature or knowledgeable, because I vote on the first night (LOL). But I go back through, usually the third or fourth day, and again on the last day, and revisit my scores and raise them. I don't lower them. I would imagine there are others like me, which could explain the generosity and higher scores on the 7th day.

I usually vote the first morning, so I won't be too influenced by my own score. I noticed once when I voted later and my score was quite bad, that I voted much more grumpy then usual. I go back somewhere on the 5th or 6th day to change a few things, but I hardly ever score them down more than one point, even when my own score sucks. Usually I score up, as a lot of pictures get nicer when you see them more often.

Nice idea to keep the stats. Maybe I'll try something like that when there is a moment I have some time spare (probably in 16 years).

i know that a lot of people adjust their votes after going through them once. just throwing out a possible reason for the jump in scores.

Yeah, I think you guys are right about people adjusting their scores upward on the last day. I do that myself, so I should have thought of it. :-)
