Since I cannot hope to get full explanation of the poor reception til after voting (and I don't know if I will bother) I will seek it myself in the form of a re-shoot to do a compare and contrast.
Perhaps it would be a good idea that after the voting the people who were negatively surprised by their low marks and no comments, will open a forum and ask the question. The answers might hurt a little but certainly help in the long run. And I do think that it's worthwhile if one goes for improving oneself and not for the mark only.
FYI. I am doing poor in the shoe business with 89 votes, 4.55 and two lovely and flattering comments. And to be honest, I do not know myself what mark I would have given to it. I am too close to the subject to evaluate it and it looks like I don't go mainstream if there is such a thing is cast in stone.
Before revisiting the challenge, I rated all photos with an average of 4.66 and made comments on 17 images, 10 of them rated by me for top 10.. |

I am genuinely happy with this score, but in my attempt to bring loneliness to my photo as the challenge requires, I unintentionally brought back some sad personal memories. I never thought of it when i was shooting it. It's still early to say, but it seems this photo will stay in my profile page for a while, and that's what i'm not happy about. |

I totally what you mean... I'm at about half the entries so far and just struggled to find much beyond low contrast bland photos of two shoes at opposing angles... kinda boring |

welcome!! Don't let the numbers bother you. One of the best things to do when you're first starting on the site, is simply try to beat yourself. I spent the first year ignoring the other scores and simply trying to beat my own average. Actually, I still go by that. A successful challenge, imo, is one where I've beaten my own average. :)
