Mom's a Terrorist?

If even a fraction of what's alleged is true, these cops should be fired and locked up with the gangbangers.

Scary. I would always call ahead whenever I shot pictures at Portland International. They were always cool about it though. It's always hard to know what the real story is. It's hard to bring myself to believe that such bad stuff could happen to an innocent person, but that might be just because I don't want to believe.

In my area, photogs near bridges and dams are being closely scrutinized. I don't exactly project "the profile" of a terrorist, but I've been intensely confronted/questioned a few times. Must be the camera, as a red flag. Based on the OP's story, I guess I should be grateful I wasn't arrested.

Calling ahead just makes sure there is someone there to process your beat down. If i remember correctly a guy entering in Amtrak's photo contest obtained permission from Amtrak to shoot something Amtrak related. Was beat down and either harrased or arrested, etc etc. As everyone should know they cited the patriot act which doesn't prevent taking pictures of trains. Just enables more security and officials to lose their jobs over idiocy.

If half of that is true, the sheriff and a number of his underlings should lose their jobs. It smacks of a police department which has completely lost sight of the fact that they are public servants.

I find it hard to believe that so many people were complicit in this, though. Everyone she saw at the police dept, at the hospital, at the courtroom were all in on this? One place, maybe two, but that many? Sorry -- doesn't strike true to me.

He wasn't beat down. He was detained for too long of a time even though he was taking pictures for an Amtrak photo contest.

I'll admit, taken all together, it does sound kind of incredible. However, it seems even more incredible that people could spend the majority of their lives in jail, convicted of murders that they didn't commit. Yet it's happened more than once.

Even if her story is just a little bit true, it smacks of police abusing their authority in the worst possible ways.

Just curious, but didn't this incident happen quite a while ago... like 2009.

A little more digging in this reveals a story much deeper than that one link you gave us Spork. This isn't as cut and dry as that article is spouting off :D

Ray, it did happen back in 2009, and according to various links, the guns weren't found in the trunk, but on the front seat. She'd also been hanging around an Air Force Base. Some of the stories are very left-wing conspiracy. Others are right-wing. Truth is somewhere in the middle.

Never, ever, ever take a story like this at face value.

13,000 dollars in her pocketbook???????
Many things about this story smell to high heaven.

Apparently an update. Even though I question the website I found this on, he seems to fairly faithfully document these types of things.

There are some aspects of this story I find troubling. Assuming she did have $13,000 in her purse, why would anyone steal only $5,000 of it? If they did steal the $5,000 that would leave her with 7K left which she could have used as the downpayment to a bail bondsman and thereby not have to spend X number of days in the slammer.

I think I will wait for the final outcome before passing judgment on this one.

She sued for $70 million dollars, and may be awarded that amount by default because the town lawyer didn't respond to the complaint in a timely way. Here's a contentious council meeting about it. She hasn't actually been awarded the suit yet, contrary to the video title, but it looks like she probably will be. The council meeting is very interesting and awkward.

She was taking a picture of this helicoptor, which is apparently disallowed by the National Guard airport. Oops Google Maps.

She got released and no charges so why she is suing. There is one one reason Greed! The lawyers should be lockup!

I agree there are too many parts of this story that just don't add up.

The council best cross there fingers and wish upon every star that the judge in this instance grants the motion for leave to interpose an answer...otherwise the default judgement will be granted and the poor taxpayers are on the hook for 70 million.

Hard to believe that they never responded to the initial motion.

I think the picture I posted was a little higher resolution than the Google maps version ;) I guess when you get banned for trespassing on a Goverment Secured site they will bust your balls a little more than me taking a picture of a helicopter with a tripod at night in the snow like me! In the past I had drove up to the guard shack and asked permission, the asked me to par in the exit of the facility as not to cause an accident in the road. They asked me not to shoot the facility and please stick to the helicopter. They were very accommodating and plesant. This was in 2002 months after 9/11 and less than an hour from lower manhattan. I was back in around 2005 and 2009 and they were always kind.
