8 votes, 7.25 ΓΆ€” on a VERY un-bearlike image. We'll see what the morning brings...

Congrats to EVERYONE in this challenge -- it was so much fun to vote in and without a doubt, the highest average score I've given for ANY challenge to date, and included only my 3rd 9 ever.

Excellent standard!

eta: I was at 5.7 when I woke up, a couple more votes fixed that.

Hmmmm... Excellent shots. Not sure how to vote it. There are many movies I don't know. Then there are movies that I've seen, yet the picture is definitely not a scene from that movie. More like trying to have the picture look like the title of the movie. But it specifically states to mimic a scene. Yet if I vote that one down because of not meeting the challenge, it seems unfair voting on the others for which I haven't seen the movie. What if they are also just making something up?

Conundrum...

I kind of loosened up a little, and approached it as "might be a scene from the movie", left a little wiggle room. When I see the phrase "mimic a scene" I don't read that as an absolute, in the sense that the winner has to be the one that most precisely replicates the scene; if they wanted that, they'd have said "replicate a scene", right?

When you watch a performance by an impersonator, are you more drawn to it if he looks so much like Johnny Carson you could mistake him for Johnny, or if his mannerisms are so similar to Johnny's it's startling? For me, an impersonator or a mimic just has to ACT subject-like, not necessarily BE the subject in every detail. What would be the fun of that?

mimic is fine. It doesn't have to be exact. I'm all for interpretation. But when it has absolutely nothing to do with any scene in the movie, that doesn't count. But if I'm using that criteria to judge the movies I know, is it fair to just assume that the ones that I don't know all meet the challenge? I doesn't seem so...

I guess I'll just have to go rent all 50 movies. :)

Not worth the trouble I think. I never voted so high in any challenge. In the end it's the image and the title isn't it? I did not participate here and just hid myself under the "leading lines" challenge. Taking very seriously every word describing the challenge I felt being too ignorant (and almost never remembering the title of a movie did not help either). A mistake, in hindsight. No guts no glory! Not that I would have hit gold. 50 entries, half of them good. Now that's a feat in itself.

That's weird, no sooner do I post the score than I get hit with 4 votes avaeraging 4.75... and the image is not recognizably mine, nor is the title typically a "bear" title, so...

Down to the 6.7's I go :-(

Not you - lol. It happened to me (again and again) as soon as I posted something.

My theory: I think someone is reading the page code on the thread, and somehow grabbing the persons id (according to the code) and also checking the code on the entry page to see what matches. Unless it scrambles the code, this wouldn't be too difficult to figure out. I've worked with code for years and I challenge others with coding experience to step up to the plate and say yea or nay!

or...it could just be grumpy voters for all. we've seen a bit of a slide here in the voting challenges. i noticed it in the other thread as well, along with my other entry.

No, I don't believe that it's random. It has happened in almost every challenge I've entered where I've posted my score in the the thread. This has been going on steadily over the last few years.

And every time you DON'T post your score goes up, I suppose. Maybe that's the secret! For me, my scores start dropping about this time every challenge, whether I post or not.

There's a series of explorations of this topic running right now, posted by DJWoodward:
