So I take a picture, RAW mode, JPEG mode, doesn't matter.
I download the shot and I like it, but it needs some work - colour balance, maybe some delicate sharpening, bit of dodging, burning and some light use of the clone tool to tidy up the background - all well within the 'advanced editing' rules.
So, I find a friend who is more proficient in photoshop than I am, get them to do the editing. Can I submit the photo to dpc ?
Many of the now considered masters of photography used the services of expert printmakers to create the final versions of their images - they were still considered the originators/ owners of those images...

The last time I got a friend to do my editing for me, I got DQd for illegal editing. Hehe :)

Legally, it is still "your" image, so I suppose it would be OK, so long as it is not the editing which "substantially" creates the artistic value (aka "wow factor").
We've already OK'd having an assistant function as a remote to trigger the shutter when the photographer has framed and set up the shot. This seems reasonably analogous. And I'm always asking people what color something is ...
If you were a quadraplegic, I would expect someone to be maneuvering the mouse/stylus at your direction ... the ADA probably doesn't allow us to discriminate against you just because you don't have carpal tunnel syndrome (yet). :) |
