When I start up cs5 photoshop, I get an error as it loads. Its trying to connect to a server and that server is my laptop, another computer. It says recheck my ip address and all that. When I open my laptop and have it connected to the same wifi network, the photoshop will load up with no problem.
Why would it want to do this? |

I'm no genius but It might just be wanting to scan for updates every time it loads. This has never happened to me though, when i've been working offline.

Nothing seems to work. I disabled all of my internet connection stuff associated with what those documents talked about. Still does the same thing. |

Is it, uh, a real copy? Nevermind. That doesn't appear to be the issue.

My first guess would be that you set up a scratch drive on a mounted volume from your laptop? |

I thought that might be the case since I transfered all of my files over to my new imac. However, I just reinstalled the program from scratch last night and I still get the same message. |

Oh! iMac. There's your problem. You need to look into Windows 7.
(Sorry, I just couldn't resist.) Carry on. I hope you figure it out. Problems like this are super frustrating. |

Are you trying to start PS on the iMac and the laptop is turned off? Based on your last statement it appears to expect to connect to your laptop every time it starts up. Do you have your laptop HD identified as a scratch disk in PS?

Try turning off Version Cue in your System Preferences. |

Have you tried clearing Photoshop preferences?
"Press and hold Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings.
*(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.
New Preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop."

ok, I did that, however its still doing this.
The server "101100"(name I named my other computer) may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and then try again..
thats the message i get and wont start up until I do so. |

I agree that it sounds like it needs/wants the other computer to be attached, and that's possibly because it needs it as a scratch disk. Can you attach the other computer and relaunch PS, and maybe check that?
Has PS been installed on both computers, or just the iMac? |

Did you catalogue your pics whilst a network drive was mapped? It may be that it's looking to rescan your catalogue for updated pics but can't find all of it. You could try deleting your catalog file and running a fresh scan (an uninstall/reinstall may not remove the catalogue file) |

Quick and easy way would be to rename the catalog or catalog folder.
If it's "Lightroom Catalog.lrcat" for example, rename it "Lightroom Catalog.lrcat.backup" or something similar.
This will cause Lr to not recognize it and has the same effect as deleting it, but gives you the option to easily restore it if needed by renaming it back. |

So I got the problem figured out. And in case anyone else had the problem. When I copied my brushes folder over from my macbook to my iMac there were some alias files there for some reason. So it was trying to connect to my macbook to find those missing brushes. Got rid of them and Im free again |
