Great images Johanna! It's funny that I grew up in LA, but have lived most of my life in Seattle, and nrcer went out to the Salton Sea. I had no real impressions about the area. You've captured a lovely desolation. The shots with a fish eye lens are a unique and effective way to capture the abandoned structures. Nice work. |

I love the tourist map drawn by Dr. Seuss! :P

LOL, his Cholla looks an awful lot like a Prickly-pear :) |
I prefer his depiction of "Wetbacks." |

Thanks Frank, et al. I'm finally coming to the end of my editing. I'll have about 30 images total from over 700 I took that day. It is most decidedly a photographer's paradise. The tire tracks image is actually from an area known as the mud pots, which are sort of geothermal mud springs, which bubble up in the mounds and create ponds. The sounds the mud creates are unbelievable. Unfortunately, except for that image, all the rest of mine were meh. But if you Google them, you'll see how cool they are. |

this place isn't far from me - 6 hours maybe. I need to go spend some time there one of these days. |

The final images from that long, wonderful day. Fittingly, there are a number of sunset shots. 29 images - down from 708... |

It's always reminded me of old-fashioned cooked chocolate pudding ...
You can also find mud pots in Yellowstone, and in the Bumpas Hell section of Mt. Lassen National Park in northeastern California. |
