I am reading some of the posts on this forum and am wondering. How many photos a day do you take ? Some write that they got their new camera a week ago and already have a 1000+ shots...I have to admit that's pretty impressive. I mostly have little time for this hobby during the week, do most of my shooting during the weekends, so on average that works out to about 3 shots a day...can you share with us what your average is ?

I'm not real steady with my shots...I typically carry my camera with me in the event something spectacular comes along, but I haven't had the discipline to make myself take a certain level of shots. That's why I like DPC...the challenges force me to look at things differently. My wife has a great time kidding me about it. |

I've had my 300D for 144 days and I've taken 4350 photos...
30.2/day

Rough estimate (I've had my G5 a little less than 6 months, and have shot about 8500+ pics with it): about 50/day. But probably 50% of those are either crap right off the bat, or duplicates, where I shoot the same thing several times with different settings since I can't always tell which works better on the LCD. |

126 Days for me and I have shot 2629.

I'm at work, so I'm not exactly sure when I got my camera, but it was almost exactly one year ago.
7300 total / 365 days = 20 per day over the last year
This doesn't include photo's taken with my Sony P2, but that would be much more difficult to figure out. |

9500 / 180 days => 52/day
I generally won't shoot during the week, but if I do a sports event at the weekend I'll fairly easily shoot 700+ shots per day. I'm only as low as I am because I wasn't shooting events for a month and a half. |

200 days and 11200 pictures = 56 per day
Example, last weekend I was at Roskilde Festival and I took about 1300 pictures. I deleted 900, and uploaded 400 to Mr.X.

I agree with ScottK, it isn't really the number of shots, but the number of keepers that matters. I take 20 shots of the same flower trying to get it just right, but I really only have the one final image. As far as *different* photos, I think I average 6 or 7 a day, unless something unexpectedly photogenic occurs (4th of july, wedding, tiger in the backyard, etc)
EDIT: Typo

So of all these shots, does anyone else have any problem with "thinning" them out afterwards? With digital, it is so easy to take huge amounts of shots -- sometimes I have a difficult time really weeding them out, editing & organizing, etc.

I just use a viewer program to weed out obvious throwawys all at once, then keep anything marginal or better for perusal when I have time. Nikon Viewer is useless for almost anything other than this purpose, but ideal for skimming through many shots to find rejects.
Hard to imagine what we'll do with the 10GB camera cards of the future :)

I guess my real issue is that I am a photo pack rat of sorts!!! And I take too much time with things I guess. I use ACDSee for the viewing, and do find it excellent for that.

Yup, I take about 30 a day. If it is blury it's outta there, but the rest I have a hard time getting rid of em. My weekend outtings, once I do a quick sweep go right to CD (I'm averaging about 650M each adventure). On the Fourth I end up with 1.2G in one day with the parade, party in the park and fireworks...that will be fun to go through. |

Just to throw off the curve I average about 111/day. Yep. I don't realistically shoot that many everyday and I definitely don't post that many. I generally shoot between 2 and 10 photoshoots per month with models and typically we capture around 750 frames per session. So during a regular week I may shoot a couple of hundred photos for personal use (flowers, insects, my daughter, my wife, etc). On a high-usage week I may should a couple thousand frames of models.
Of those, we end up selecting between 10 and 20 that both the model and I like.
I don't think that's any type of norm, tho. Just what I do.
Kev

With my 2 Olympus's I have shot 13,000 photos in 2 years, for an average of 18 per day. However, like many folks above, when I'm at an event (baseball or soccer game, graduation, wedding, snorkeling) I take a couple of hundred shots that day. Many other times (like February - a tough photographic month for me) I barely pick the camera up. I'm usually into Photoshop Elements during the lull periods.

8934 images/209 days = 42.75 per day
Like others, lots of junk and re-tries and goofing around and figuring out the equipment. Don't know how many are really "keepers" as I'm terribly bad at throwing stuff out and haven't had to yet (hard drive still at 80% free space).
I have a 250k and 500k card--makes taking lots of memory intensive pics very easy at an outing without worrying about space.

About 3000 images since Jan 1st, that is about 17 / day. Oh dear, I'm down on average. But on the other hand I don't seem to delete as many as the others here. Less duplicates. |

I am glad I read this thread.
I am going to print it out and show my family!
When we all go out I am always looking for photo opportunities and I get moaned at all the time. "Come on, MUM!" and "Sally, where are you!"
I love to take photos of flowers, insects, skies, and animals and so on and on. I dont know my average but if I don't take at least 1 a day I get withdrawal syptoms. LOL!
Yes! I am addicted to photography It's such a great hobby and my family think I am crazy at times. I love to create, to see the images some good, some not so good and some with that, WOW factor! the trouble is the Wow! ones dont always fall within the challenge dates so I have to file them for my own enjoyment
My family do appreciate my talent though and are really quite understanding but its a fight for the computer and that really bugs me when I want to do some voting or download my images and I cant get on the computer
Sally

I've already hit the 1400+ point and I've had my new camera since 6/16 and I will have had it for three weeks tomorrow. I took over 450 this weekend alone (38 Fri + 210 Sat + 170 Sun + ? Mon (my batteries are dead so I can't load the pics)).
I usually don't take everyday, but then when I do, I take tons at once. Sometimes I don't even realize how many I've taken until I get home and load them.

Since last Nov. through today I've taken about 23,000, which averages to about a hundred a day. I try to shoot every day but always at least 6 days a week. Oh...I auto bracket....A lot! LOL!

63000/350 = 180 a day.
Today I took just 26 photos, yesterday I took around 150 so it is just up and down for me.
I often take many photos of the same thing to get it right. |
