I was wondering if anyone has experimented with blacklight photography. I have been asked to do some special photos using blacklights, for a local artist, of both body art and traditional artwork. Anyone have any suggestions or success with blacklight photography?

Have something that takes of lint (like one of those stick rollers). Because black light picks up on it amazingly. Be careful with the blacklight bulbs, fragile.

This one was shot with two blacklights, and it was surprisingly difficult.

The fluorescent glow makes the focus appear soft. Shooting in RAW and/or underexposing a bit might help.

Yeah that is the kind of stuff I need to know about... where did you have the lighting set up at for this shot?

I tried it earlier this week on an attempt I was making for a submission to "Purple" challenge.
Very difficult. I was using brightly coloured paints under the black
light...BUT...the paints wouldn't glow while wet.
When the paint was wet is seemed to just eat up the UV light.
It was too late for me to go out and get paint that would flouresce under the blacklight while wet.
I'll be making another attempt. (I don't give up that easy)

I had one light bulb directly overhead, between the lines, and another in the front. See my after-challenge comments on that photo for more info.

I've tried blacklight a couple of times.

The lint roller is a must. There will be specks show up that you had no idea existed. Also, I don't know if anything you will be using will be machine washed, but a lot of laundry detergents have an agent in them that glows under a blacklight (I just got a picture idea).

This was one of the first pictures taken with my 707

And another attempt

I think for both of these, I had a black light light bulb in an ordinary desk lamp. I may have also been using a small, handheld black light, but I can't remember. In both of these above, the closer the light source was to the subject, the more dramatic the results.

I think crisp clear edges make for better pictures, in this situation (like mine are NOT, but should be). Also, there is a gallery on pbase, I think it is one of the 'favorites' that has some incredible blacklight stuff in it. Unfortunately, I can't remember the photogs name.
