My two-minute try at it...
I was lazy and used the auto levels and auto contrast in PS, then adjusted curves a tad. It got kind of noisy, so I ran it through NeatImage.

Another quickie:
It's hard to work on such a small image, but adjusting the histogram does a lot of good sometimes. I'm working in PaintShop Pro, so probably this will not help you, but I used the "clarify" set to 1 after adjusting the histogram. You might want to straighten the horizon also a bit, and maybe increase the blue in the sky a tad. I then NeatImaged lightly.
I think also that in a picture like this one, I would keep the proportion of water to ski 1/3 to 2/3 or something like that, to make it a bit more dynamic.
BTW, in my personal opinion (and I do not know much about b/w), this would not be a good image to convert to b/w. I don't think that would "fix" it. I think it's a bad idea to think of converting to b/w as a way to fix images that look lackluster in colour. But that's just my opinion.

Save the original to your computer, then you can play with it, then upload to your portfolio and link to the message. |

Through our amazing telepathic mind powers we received once DPC invaded and then ate our brains...
Just Kidding!!!! If an image is in your portfolio, you can put it in a post by clicking on the little "double window" looking icon just above where you type in your post. You'll need to look at the pic in your portfolio and make note of what image number it's been assigned (mouse over it and look in the address bar). Good luck! :o)

You can put it in your "workshop" folder, so it doesn't show as your picture (in your profile), but you can still see it in the thread here. |

Hi Oksana,
Actually it can, but the results will never be as good without the original file. I did a five minute dabble with it and can see why you wanted to fix it - there was a huge shark hiding!! LOL
Hope you don't take offense - it's late
If you really need to fix the shot, send me the original file and I'll do it without add-ins...

I also had to try a quick-fix:
Cropped/rotated. One Curve applied in Photoshop with set-points of 25%=0%, 42%=29%, 56%=64% -- curve should have a steep "S" shape. Two applications of Unsharp Mask filter with settings of 88%, 0.8 dia, TH=5; saved with maximum-quality JPEG setting.
The shark must have swum off when it saw me coming with the Crop tool ...

Adjusted contrast in PSP8 using a handy little tool called "clarify"..which takes a bit of the pain out of sorting those kind of problems.
