Ah, so your ancestors were once immigrants of a nation other than the United States of America. Good to know! |

...and of course by extension, you would have us believe that all current immigrants do?
All I have heard from your so far is xenophobic mindless drivel...but hey, that's only my take on it.

Again we arent being groped to get on planes to protect ourselves from them. |
No one likes the groping. Well, OK, there are probably a few with a few beers under their belt that find it amusing. No one wants to go through all that shit to fly. I don't. I also don't want to live in a country where after all we've been through to get to where we are, we suddenly revert to judging a man by the color of his skin or the style of his dress. How sad is that? |
'suddenly revert to' ?
Too late. Embarrassingly clear is that this technique works. If you target Arabs you will eventually find a terrorist just as if you target white males and screen their laptops for images of nude children you will end up catching a pedophile. Target Italians and you'll eventually find someone who has had dealings with the Italian mafia. It's insulting and degrading to have to go through that but it seems to be the most effective way to find these undesirable people. Think of how many terrorists that do not try to cross a border in fear they'll be targeted for questioning.

Well there was the eradication of the American Indian in the name of something. Expansion? The queen? But I'm sure that was someone else's ancestors. |

Sorry Deb, but how far back do we go? It may of been his, and your, distant ancestors, but really, to keep bringing this up is like Afro-americans dragging up slavery arguments all the time - there is only so long we should need to apologise for the things our forebears did and to which we have no responsibility for. I feel no guilt whatsoever about `we` did when the British empire pretty much had its finger in every cultural pie on earth. Its a bit like me blaming modern day Germans for the holocaust - and that was only, what, 65 years ago?
To add a bit of controversy to the proceedings - sometimes certain races/religions etc benefit from having these things to drag up from time to time - I know several black people who have admitted to me that playing "The Black Card" has gotten them benefits in certain situations over their white colleagues - hell I can`t even complain about it as they could quite easily pull "The Black Card" on me and lets face it, no one wants the Racism gun aimed at them.

I cannot speak for Deb, but I hardly believe the timeline was the issue as much as the fact that acts of this nature are not the sole domain of Muslims. It could be argued that all of us are capable of outrageous acts and that it is folly to suggest that any specific group has a corner on that market.
This is my view on the matter, but best you ask Melethia directly.

... Indeed, but did you ask her what I specifically made mention of, which was the following:
"I cannot speak for Deb, but I hardly believe the timeline was the issue as much as the fact that acts of this nature are not the sole domain of Muslims."

Yep, not a "guilt" thing, but a "cast the first stone" kinda thing. Baby, bath water, etc. No race cards, no nothing. Just don't play God unless you are.

And yeah, that's kind of my point. We can't "blame" (or ban) Muslims for the acts of extremists, unless it's OK to blame everyone else for everything their relatives or religion ever did. Gotta wonder about that whole Spanish Inquisition and the comfy chair....

No, only their belief that they were superior to the natives and all of that other "Manifest Destiny" BS
Or maybe you prefer to discuss the "conversion" of the Native Americans to "Christianity" by the missionaries, or the deliberate infection of the same Native tribes by trading smallpox infested blankets and other goods to them. All to conquer a continent of "savages".

Uh, it is in no way "embarrassingly clear". The technique doesn't work. The only thing it does is inconvenience (and sometimes brutally) innocent people while causing the guilty to simply find some other way. It's a path to tyranny and totalitarianism in the name of false security and band-aid pacification of artificially inflated fears.

K10, I think you read that entirely wrong. I think his point was that profiling is pointless. I could be mistaken. |

I re-read it, but that's not the way it comes across to me. He can explain further, of course.
