Prior to the fungus incident last night, I snapped this one of my five year-old son. Wondering if you had any comments or suggestions for post processing. Thanks! :o)

That's a cute shot! Would be cool to see what would result if you blurred the focus of the grass a bit to bring more attention to your son.

If your burn left + top left a bit it will put more emphasis on him.

Thanks for the suggestions...I combined both into one...any better? :o)

I think the blurring is too obvious and destroys the image.

Cute pic. Sweet smile, but I'll bet he looks more angelic than he is! :) Personally, I think I would crop just a bit from the bottom, so that just the very top of the striped pants shows. Then I would crop just a bit from left and top to maintain proportion somewhat. I like having the grassy space, but for some reason, the striped pants being right in that corner take my eye from his face. Just my .02.

One thing I've discovered is that cropping is really a personal opinion depending on your desire for what the photo conveys.

My attempt...
Adjusted the blue level down to warm up the skin tone. (might make the grass a bit too yellow, though)
Duplicated the layer and applied Gaussian Blur at about 5 pixels. Opacity of layer about 45%. With eraser set to 60% opacity revealed orignal layer on face only. Whaddya think?

Beautiful child. Strong colors. Like the expression and framing.

Thanks...you folks are so nice to help me out! I want to send one to my mom, who says he's not her favorite (..."I love all my grandchildren the same...") but he really is. I appreciate it! :o)

Laurie....I really like the quality and colours of your original photo the best with maybe a little cropping on the left and bottom as Judy suggested. It's such a lovely photo of his face.

I really like the soft effect on this one. Very nice shot, Laurie!

I'm curious what folks think about this:

Does the "shallow DOF" effect help or hinder Laurie's photo?

J.P. will never believe he was so popular as a 5 year old... LOL
He's the one holding the watermelon in my desat pic, BTW...although now he has his summer hairdo (makes mom's life easier). I appreciate all the input! :o)

Not bad, but the blur almost feels like motion and takes my eyes from the child. HOw did you do that?
