A bit? Oh hell no, I'm extremely miffed. And I think voting tends to obscure the real choices with non-choices..

I neglected to mention that my insurance company billed me twice as much for my co-pay because I saw a "Nurse Practitioner" instead of a "MD"...

Clearly because she lacked education and experience, she must be worth twice as much..... Bastards.

You could move to Canada. But the money you save on healthcare would be spent on warm clothing. The real solution is to find an uncharted, desert isle. With Gilligan, the Skipper too...

I totally respect that you made the effort... My issue is that I feel anyone on the ballot is a "wrong person".. Therefore I'm left with no choice.

And to posthumous, corporations still own democrats.. The only person in politics that I don't think is owned by corporations is Ralph Nader, and he's an egomaniac asshole. *sigh* hopeless...

What we need are progressive candidates making our health care fiasco a single payer system, like the rest of the industrial world has. The latest health care bill was only a first start to help curb some of the worst abuses. Only if you get involved in the political system, instead of being a cry baby, will things start to change for the better. The republicans don't give a rat's ass about you, only corporate their corporate sponsors.

Ahh, there's that polarization I love soo much... Yep, if I vote democrat my problems will disappear. And since you've enjoyed insinuating that I'm a cry baby because I'm talking about how I feel, and my refusal to play along like a nice kid, then I've got a choice phrase to describe you.

"Ignorant fool".

Actually, another important distinction, especially relevant to the whole "corporate takeover of politics" scenario mentioned above, is the passage of laws by the conservative side of the Supreme Court that benefit Republican interests. For example, laws that assert the corporation has the same rights as individuals, ban limits on campaign spending, or permit campaign donations to be kept secret.

And since people seem to think I've no solution, let me lay out what I think would be ideal.

One of the big problems I have with our system is that laws are almost never revisited, updated, or changed, it's just that new laws are stacked like band-aids on top of old laws, until the stack is fairly precarious and insurmountable...

Throw away every law on the books, keep the constitution and bill of rights, and then re-write everything to be clean and clear, instead of the convoluted mess it currently is.

Before we do this, however, we need to remove every politician from the process, and instead have it controlled and written by a spectrum of people, representing our society, real people, you know, doctors, lawyers, construction guys, computer techs, geologists, biologists, gang-bangers, dope dealers, school children, old people, mechanics, baseball stars, musicians, artists, and even a politician or two..

Not going to happen, but I think that would work very nicely, oh, and they need about 15 years to construct the system properly, a rush job will not help anyone...

ETA: We also need accountability, so if on any given day the approval rating dips below 40%, the politician should be immediately fired, paraded through the streets and pelted with rotten vegetables and rancid meat products.

Ah, but in the constitutionally run world, Supreme Court types don't write ANY law, only judge the constitutionality of laws passed by YOUR congress, duly elected. Novel idea, isn't it?

Saw a stat the other day where 75% of the people think the country is in dire condition but 75% of the people think their own lives are going pretty well. That's the power of the ranters and the press.

Just to be clear, I think the country is pretty great, I simply think politics and law are egregiously screwed.

I hope you're not a Democrat. I also hope other Democrats will go and vote today. Your country is about to change in a big way and that scares the crap out of me and I don't even live in your country.

Your country will come to a standstill if the lefties get their way, but I think that's already happened.

I see you didn't read any of my other posts.... :) No, I'm not a Democrat, nor am I a Republican, I see them as a single entity with different talking points, none of which are actually true...

I have not seen a lot of changes but I guess some things have been renamed!

Edited to add I did vote....lol

I spent the last week reviewing every proposition, measure & candidate on the ballot & although in some cases its just the lesser of two evils I feel confident in my choices ... about to drop off my ballot!! -- GO VOTE & make educated decisions!!

That's a novel approach, I wish all voters would read the issues before they vote rather than getting the info from commercials.

Just a reminder, if you are voting democrat, you should vote tomorrow. The lines will be shorter.

Someday you will want to retire, there is a group of politicians out there that want to destroy Social Security for you unless you say no.
Someday you will get sick and need health care, the same group wants you to be at the mercy of greedy lying insurance companies, unless you say no.
I can go on and on. There are stark choices in this election. If you don't vote then don't complain about what comes your way.

That used to be true when your two parties were different. Now they both kiss corporate ass and do what big business wants them to do. Voting isn't what it used to be. We're all puppets when it comes to voting because we keep voting the wrong guys in no matter who we vote for.

No I didn't read your posts, I work all day.

Not a dem nor a repub; then I'm afraid you are nothing in your country because that seems to be the only thing that you can be in your political system. A mule or an elephant. Choose or shut up. <--- this is not aimed at you Cory, just generalizing.

I see you see the American Political system in the same light I do... They love to tell us that we get to choose, and then they spoon-feed us two choices, both of which are fairly indistinguishable from each other and from previous spoon-feedings... I'd really like to see some change, but as long as everyone believes that their vote counts, and that they're making a real difference by voting, it's a hopeless cause.

Do you guys read the papers at all? Do you watch news programs that report news? Do you know anything about the tea party movement other than that you hate Sarah Palin?

The tea party is nothing new. Just a more radical version of the republicans. I know the one from Delaware is such a bad joke it's pathetic.

eta: Yes I voted. That way I can complain when I want to.

No, not new, and not perfect, and largely conservative, but intently opposed to having our voices ignored by those elected to serve us...Democrat OR Republican. Some of the candidates AND incumbents on both sides are pretty pathetic, too, don't you think?

Well, it's my turn to 'fess up. I just came home from the voting booth after having passed judgment of 24 propositions and said yes to 21 candidates for office. (This IS California)

For my pains I received a paper badge (just like the one below), five receipts for the five pages of ballot, and the sense of satisfaction for doing my bit for our system of government. Imperfect government? Sure. Better than most? Yep.

The question I have is this... Other than being anti everything that currently exists in the political realm, what exactly does the Tea Party stand for. I am confident that a significant number of the American population is keenly aware that things are amiss, but I have yet to hear any Tea Party representative proffer any valid counter points on how to rectify the situation.

As an aside, another thing I would also love to know is... Just how is this group generating funds... or should I simply assume that they are getting it from the same types our sources as the two establishes parties.

Just curious,

Ray
