This question is for those of you who print your own photos. Has anyone tried using photo canvas paper?

I saw this in a local photo store and it is rather pricey, would love to know if anyone has tried it and what were your results like?

It is great for images that suit the finish - as it adds texture. Some images suit that, others don't. I also use watercolour papers for similar but slightly different reasons.

I've printed a few images on it - you also need to consider how you'll mount/ display the finished result. In the cases I've used it, I mounted it on pre-glued mount board with a squeegee to spread it down. Other options include stretching it over a frame - it depends on the canvas - some is pre-stretched, others require you to do the stretching and mounting yourself.

I've only used the cheap Office Depot own brand canvas so far, mainly as a test for a large panel that I wanted to get printed at around 20x30

i would look into 'canvas transfers' and see what you think.
thats taking the actual photo print, and tranfering onto a framed painters canvas. seems like it would be more realistic to the texture than just flat textured paper.

i have seen photos done this way, and its pretty neat, add a frame to it, and you have waht looks to be a painting.

Yes, I have used it and it works well. I edited a picture to look like an oil painting and then printed it on the canvas paper; it did look just like a painting. After framing, I gave it as a gift.

the canvas transfer method is super durable, and won't fade from UV light. the price is reasonable from what i know IF - some one in your area does it.

you can wash the finished product with windex.

I have used them and love it for certain effects.

I'm a Realtor. The first time I tried it, I had a photo of a home I sold for a gentleman who had built the home himself and lived there with his family for 50 yrs, and he was moving into a nursing home.

I had a great marketing shot I had taken of the home, so I played around with the editing of it and found a really nice chalk drawing effect that suited the photo. I added some text about it being the family home.

When I printed it out on the canvas, it looked great. I wish I had taken a photo of it. I framed it (just a cheap frame) and gave it to the family at the closing of the property and they just about cried because they were so touched.

It doesn't work for every photo as well, though. I've tried it with some that I've liked alot and others where it fell kinda flat. It is fun to experiment with. I use the Staples brand.

well after reading everyones replies here I am going to get it to print a very special portrait on for an upcoming competition. Might just be that little extra edge I need.

And Gordon thanks for the suggestions on the pre-glued mounting board. Makes a lot of sense to me especially with how expensive the paper is. It should be mounted properly.
