This was the first challenge that Andre' participated in, and we were both kind of excited about it because now we have something more in common together (10 year old boys tend to drift away from mommy's interests, you know). He was afraid of being in last place, but he wasn't! I was proud of him and his pictures...not bad for a first timer. He had some comments about white-balance...unfortunately the Sony is auto everything, so what he got, he got. He chose the crop that was entered and now knows to crop in more to the action (I did the mouse-clicking and button-pushing as he directed). He's at his grandma's for the next week and hasn't even seen the results, but he will be happy, I think!

As for mine, well...I had a lot of comments about the angle...but we couldn't get on the other side of the action and dang it, they just wouldn't recreate the accident for me, so this is what I got. ;o) I have a whole series of shots...about 160 of them...but thought this was the most "newsy" of the bunch. Thanks for the helpful comments!

I think it's so cool that your son is participating with you and that ya'll are able to share an interest in photography. My son just turned 8 and already he is starting "the drift"! They grow up too dang fast. But isn't it fun to watch them find joy in their endeavors?!

Congratulations to both of you ... although you might not feel quite so elated when he beats you head-to-head in a challenge, as I know from experience!

Quite a respectable finish (I think it beat mine), especially for a first try. Using black and white would solve any white-balance concerns and fit with the newspaper theme, and probably a tighter crop would help give people more of a feel for the action. Maybe he could try re-editing the photo after reading the comments and see what he ends up with.

Congrats, Laurie - and to Andre as well. Together, you two added up to almost exactly a 10, so you're a perfect team!

BTW, you might want to bring a bag of marbles to the races for those times when the participants refuse to recreate an accident scene. They're surprisingly effective. :-)

Happy shooting to both of you!
