I deserved my last bad vote experience. I am learning some ps techniques and tried it out on an entry and emberassed myself....it was very bad.
at any rate the tough voting keeps me submitting. it's a challenge to move up and get better
your numbers will come up...hang in there |

:) So someone noticed. I was up last night working on images for June Free Study and Purple. I had submitted an image to June one but seeing it on the site didn't impress me and changed my mind. Needed to go through loads of images and find a few good ones and see how they turn out with a few adjustments. Now I am at work and feeling pretty sleeepy too. Getting the coffee in like pints of lager or your mates wedding. At work now and still checking the site 8-). I have to say I am addicted :o) |

49 votes....5.1 and on the way down. No comments.
I quite like the picture but I definitely didn`t spend enought time getting the exposure right.
If I ever get a comment,it will be interesting to see if the exposure`s the problem or whether it`s just plain boring. |

This is the first time EVER that I've taken shots specifically for a challenge, then picked out a handful of potential candidates, tweaked them to be all that they could be, and then... didn't enter. They were pretty good photos of an unusual subject, but they just didn't feel extraordinary to me. That's probably what the low voters are thinking... an otherwise fine shot in this almost-free study could get an unusually low vote if "extraordinary" doesn't come through.
That said, geez... am I glad I sat this one out! I only glanced at the entries, but it looks like one of the better groups I've seen. Nice job to all!
Except you, Bassie. WWYT? ;-) |

| I don't know how others vote. But what I do is I vote all the images first and revisit them and have another think about them. That's when I pick the images I would want to comment on. To me there's no point is trying to comment unless you really want to say something. I go though the images a few times and adjust my votes too. |

| I try to comment on as many as possible good or bad. I'm no expert but I do hope that what I say helps. |

Usually, I don't get too attached to my score. I submit the pic and hope for the best. But this challenge is really getting under my skin! I have had comments suggesting that I CHEATED for God's sake. :-(( It makes me sad because I worked hard on my submission and I tried to meet to challenge.
If folks think a photo doesn't meet the basic editing rules, why don't they DQ it?? Can I DQ my own pic?

Ellen:
Click on your submission from the voting page (yours will be at the very end) and click "Request an admin note". Upload your original, and explain that you are getting comments that you cheated. List your editing steps. The SC will review, and add the "This photo has been validated" tag which should prevent any further comments like that. |

Fair enough Xion, but I have a different approach...
I try to vote and comment sequentially. That way, I'm less biased by better or worse images I've seen in the group, and I force myself to comment on the unremarkable shots. When commenting on only a few photos, the tendency is to comment on only the best shots (mostly congratulatory, as they don't need help) and the very worst. The bulk of the average shots will be ignored, and that's probably the group that could most benefit from comments.
Unfortunately, I tend to leave long comments, and I've had very little time in the past few months. I'm going to try to get through all the Color Studio Portraits, then put some time into Extraordinary next week. |

On voting night sleep is contra-indicated

Don't let it get to you. I get those comments all the time, in part because I sometimes try to take shots that look impossible. In those cases, I request an admin note immediately after the voting starts, as Eddy suggested, and wait for the "How can this be?" comments to roll in. It's part of the fun. You should feel proud that you've taken a photo that your commentor apparently couldn't manage. ;-) |

" Now shoot something extraordinary!" that's what it says. But my opinion is if some asks you to say something extraordinary, you don't have to try a foreign language. |

Does it really matter? An extraordinary picture is, by default, something extraordinary. |

It should matter because it said to shoot something extraordinary not take an extraordinary shot.
BTW I gave you an 8 |

| Ghost movies are not extraordinary movies. Most of them are low budget something. But an extraordinary movie is a well executed one. |
