What's yours? I've had the opportunity to work on the Nikon side and the Canon while also using Sigma and Tokina.

I would say, to date, my favorite was the 30mm 1.4 by Sigma. It was just beautiful glass. Can't use it on the markiv unfortunately.

85mm f1.2 mk2 strapped to my 5D - just not the same on the 1dmk3.

I just love my 85 f1.8 for portraiture, always my first choice of lens if there is enough space

Tamron 90mm macro

Sharp, fast (2.8), light, small, recessed lens element, good for standard 90mm shots as well as macro.

It depends on the subject and situation, but I guess if I have to pick a favorite it is the Sigma 30mm 1.4 as well.

Lensbaby original f/2.8, plastic optical element. Throw away the aperture rings.

Damn, that's pretty much an impossible question... but if forced to pick just one, I might have to say the 135/f2.0 L. Optically, it's pretty much beyond reproach, and the DoF control at 135mm and f/2 is phenomenal. The results are magical.

Canon 100mm f/2.8L, best wide open, great bokeh. I love my bodycap pinhole as well.

I had a nifty 50, Canon 50mm 1.8, but it broke. *pout*

I'll see that and raise you the IS version. My favorite prime. Really my only prime for the 5D, though, unless you count the lensbaby. Which lives in penny's bag right now...

I've only have had a couple. 60mm macro. 100mm macro. and the 85mm 1.8. Sold the macro lens since I'm not much into it. They're all very good lens, but by far the 85mm 1.8 worked the best for me. In fact I had sold my first copy, within a month I had repurchased a new one...Lol. I would love to try the 85mm f1.2.

This is a tough choice, because I keep a bag full of old manual primes with me everywhere I go, and try to choose the right one to best fit the needs of each shot.

If I had to live with only one prime, it would probably be the old manual 35mm f2 Nikkor "O". It's wide enough to use for general purpose shooting . It gets details in the background that I can't even see when I am there shooting the photos.

My current affair is with a Vivivtar Series 1 70-210mm f3.5 Macro Focusing Zoom, made about 1976. I found it on eBay for $ 14.99, and every shot with it just kicks butt. It's nearly as sharp as the Nikkor AF 180 2.8 prime at the long end, and close in sharpness to the MF Nikkor 85 f1.8 at the wide end, plus it has excellent macro down to 2.2/1.
I have been shooting about 2/3 of all my recent pix with it. I bought one for my old Canon TX when they first started making them, and used it for 25 years, until I dropped it from a place where I had climbed to the top of on a deserted island near Eluthra in the Bahamas.

Either my (fixed focus) 50mm 1.8, with a piece of welder's glass taped to the front, or my homemade pinhole lens. Neither allows my conscious mind much control over the outcome.

Two of my FAVORITE lenses are the 200mm f/2.8L II and the 300mm f/2.8L IS

Both are simply phenomenal lenses..

If I can use the 200mm f/2.8L II I do. Its speed and color rendition are pretty great. Dollar for dollar, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is the best lens I've ever bought.

A little old Pentax SMC-M 50mm f/1.7, bought with an old non-funzione MX body and a nice leather bag for $30.00 on e-bay. Very fast for walkaround, and mounted and taped to those cheap extension tubes it's a big-dog macro. Nice old glass indeed, for very little money, honey.

28mm f1.8

If I had the bucks, I'd love the 200mm f1.8...

400 f5.6L Just a great lens for birding and when you need the reach. Best of all, it's only 3 pounds and super sharp wide open. Plus it has a built in lens hood and focuses extremely fast. Did I mention it's white?

Agree with Simmo. the 85mm f1.2L (mkI) is a very special lens to me and on the FF it is unbeatable

50f1.4 right now.... but if I could find the $$ for a 135L f2 I might change my mind.
