I like that idea! I bet it would end up with some really spectacular and creative photos....after a bunch of people talking about how limiting the challenge was. |

Managing to hold on to a smidgen above my average. I'm not unhappy with that, especially for a shot edited on a netbook.

I honestly feel, looking at all the entries, that mine ought to be a top-10... My actual score? 5.6xxx...
And so it goes.

before i submitted my entry, i gave it a rating of 5, my wife gave it a 5, and my two kids also gave it a 5. so i'd be happy to get a 5 from the dpc voters. these past six days, my average score actually managed to stay between 5.0000 and 5.2000. and i was glad. now less than half an hour before voting ends, my average suddenly dipped to 4.99. hehehe. i guess my expectation was a little too high :) |

There are maybe 3 very good ones, which i assume will get ribbons... starting from 5th image, they will all suck to the bone.

I think most of those DQ's were from a high school class that was using DPC as part of their learning. I suspected this when reviewing the results (I didn't vote this one). I saw multiple similar shots in a row of the same scissors, all the users having the same recent join date. Many of the DQ's share the same join date. Someone forgot to tell them about the date restrictions, or they didn't take it seriously.

I think I got ripped off in this challenge. My picture got five 1's, which I am sure came on the last day. I was up to a 5.6 then all of a sudden dropped to a 5.3. It's really frustrating, when it is so obvious that a group of people(most likely those students) intentionally voted low. I wish there was a way to prevent this. |

i find the scoring of this picture interesting...
i can understand the troll votes, but really, what constitutes a 4,5 or 6 from some people?

I've said it before and I still think it's a good idea; you shouldn't be able to vote 1-3 without commenting to justify why you are giving such a low score.

that would have been brutal in this last challenge, do you know how many ones were given? we might have crashed the comment server. |

I don't think commenting would have crashed the server.. And it would, in a challenge like this, prevent people of giving out ones to do better them self or people not not knowing how to score or justify a low score to give them out. |

This has been discussed many times before. If there was an obligation to comment on 1-3 votes, 4 would be the new 1 (thus narrowing the voting scale) |

I suppose there is no real way to prevent this from happening, I just wish the teacher of these students was a little more responsible, letting them enter these photos to begin with was plain neglect. And a teacher shouldn't be encouraging students to be members of a site when they clearly have no real interest in photography, they are just posting to get a grade. I hope they at least got a really low grade. I know this is spiteful, but the thought does make me feel a little better.

I looked at some of the voting averages of the students and the ones who voted actually had a decent average. So the low voting may not have all been them.
btw - in the last two days, I went from almost a 6.2 down to the 5.99 - and still finished in the top 10. A score like that in the top 10 makes me chuckle :) |

I gave it a 7 for a pleasing composition. It's well balanced with strong diagonals. The blur emphasizes the composition. If this were in focus, I would have scored it lower, because the detail would distract. |

The coolest thing about it is that this is his profile picture, except it's in focus! |
