There are always people that 'hate' certain thing on here.

Water drop/ flowers / bugs/ glasses/

and they are quite vocal about it when a new challenge pops up saying how they keep seeing the same thing over and over again.

So I double dog dare all you haters, to actually take a photo of the thing you hate and submit it.

I think you will find that a lot of the people will NOT actually do it,

Mostly cos they CAN NOT do it.

Mostly cos they do not have the skill to do it

Mostly cos they just like whining about it

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I put up some fightin words there. Lets see who has the DB's to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)
Hi Juliet,
Stepping in dog doo doo is repulsive to me...
I am fully capable of doing it,
It is not that difficult,
I may not be as good at stepping in dog doo doo as you,
but the result still stinks...
Hugs
Excuses., excuses.
Come on, challenge yourself.
People whine about images, but never try them themselves.
So challenge yoruself to come up with a better shot of something that has been done.
"DB's" ? (before I start haphazardly guessing)
Been there done that! I despise clowns and entered myself dressed as a clown and ended up winning the blue. Why shoot something I hate?? Then I'll have to see it in my portfolio!!! : ) no thank you!
Too late I already started. Not sure it makes sense though.
Honestly I don't hate any of those, actually I like to see nice macro shots of any kind. However, I would also like to see new inventions, new ideas too... it seems like a few old macro ideas got stuck here at DPC.
Do you mean in the sentence or in the macro challenge?
Is it legal in the challenge. Lol
Some people specialize in certain shots and there are always us newer people to whom this is new and exciting.
The only topic of these that I so called "hate" are pictures of glasses. And it is not so much that I dislike them for themselves, I dislike how often they win ribbons.
Because to me, it shows more "technicals" than originality, so once someone ribbons with a glass, it is of my firm opinion that they should move on to something else, rather than using the boring formula over and over again to get more ribbons.
I don't hate the pictures, I just hate the (in my opinion) undeserved results.
DB's would be legal, but I have a feeling you would get the brown ribbon or below
After trying to come up with some new and different things, I've realized that there's a reason the same old things keep popping up -- they work. They work beautifully well. The people who have specialized in these shots have analyzed almost every aspect of it, and found out what angles, shots, work the best. There's not much new under the sun. Don't you think that the people who are doing these shots keep trying to improve and be creative? I do.
Last week the local dslr club posted on their site the best place to take a picture of the full moon rising over downtown. I went out to the site and took my picture with 50 other people. While there I asked myself why I was there...
My picture wasn't going to be original.
My camera wasn't the best or the worst there...
I didn't have the best or the worst technical skills of the group.
My picture was destined to be 1 out of 1000 mediocre pictures taken that night (the weather wasn't really good for the shot anyway).
If I were to do a wine glass or bug shot, I would ask myself the same questions. Unless I could come up with a way to be different / interesting, then I would prefer to not bother.
How many of the shots you take are different? If you look through 92% of the people's portfolios on this site, you will see things that have been done before. They may not be different, but to them, and perhaps to others, they are interesting. To use Irene's stuff as an example (I hope you don't mind, Irene!) Each of the shots are unique in their own way, and each are incredibly beautiful. Roz's bugs are truly amazing. If you try bug photography, you realize just how difficult it is to get an effective shot with such a limited DOF. She is truly spectacular in her craft.
The other mediocre, unoriginal water drops/bug images are people trying to find their own way. You have to master the concept before you start getting original. I see absolutely no problem with them dipping their feet into the water. Will they score well? Not usually, because we're used to seeing the best.
Okay I will give you those point lou, But why can you not strive to be number 1 out of 50 people.
That is wherein the challenge lies.
Not that 50 people have the same shot as you, but for you to be the BEST shot out of those 50
~~~~~~~~~~~

Am I making any sense? I mean people are whining that this person or that person take the best shot out of water drops./ insects etc etc

Well get out there and knock them OFF their perch.

Go out there and take a better water drop than Irene, beat Roz at her insects.

YES it has been done 94867903858103485294867 times before, so what,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You all say you hate them, they are the same time and time again.

Well, the challenge here is for you to take a shot and make it BETTER

They say that they hate say 'water drops' but looking through their ports on here and off site, they have never done one. So DO one and make it better

Oh, I know I can't do water drops, bugs, glasses, decent flowers, etc. I know I should try. But so many of you ARE good at it, that I don't see a need. Does that make sense?

I'll probably skip macro unless I find another snail... (not a bug, is it?)

At last some honesty.

The thing is, we didn't know how to walk or talk when we where young, now we don't stop. Just because you can not and others are better, doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Heck you could find out you are amazingly stupendous at it.

I bet the 102nd person that climbed Everest, wasn't put off cos someone else did it the 1st time.
09/27/2010 09:49:10 PM · #20
LOL! I ain't goin' anywhere near Everest, thanks. Never been one of my aspirations.

I know what you mean, but I really just don't have the desire to shoot wine glasses (I only own two, and I did shoot them once - failed miserably!) even if I could do it well. Just not my schtick, you know? Like there are folks who have no desire to do candid or street photography. They like order, I like chaos. It all works out well in the end, I think. I really do appreciate that it takes a lot of effort and skill to do the water drop/macro bugs/wineglasses well. I'm not even a hater. I'm horribly envious of Roz - she has the most well-trained photogenic bugs and she's made a name for herself with it. I think that's terrific! And Irene can make stuff in her kitchen look so amazingly professional. I don't even use mine for cooking, let alone photography.... :-)

But yeah, I agree with your challenge. I think the haters should give it a shot - see if they can do a cool drop, a great bug. Ain't easy!
09/27/2010 09:49:48 PM · #21
I am one of the guilty ones. I whine about all the wine glasses, but I also appreciate the skill with lighting that it takes. This is why I continue to give them high votes and I don't lowball a well done entry jsut because of the subject. They just don't get the very highest votes anymore, as those are reserved for the entries that resonate with me.

Yeah. What she said. *grin*

I've actually tried a water/wine glasses shot. The reflections were horrendous.

Try something new for YOU, folks. Even if it's "overdone and boring" here on DPC.

Yo-spiff, another honest answer, how refreshing! I likkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkke it!!!!!

Myself, personally, I do not hate or dislike any shots on here,

but what i totally SUCK at is, star trails and I am guilty of thinking, someone else does it better so I give in cos they did it better and I suck at it so I am never going to do it again. (that, and I am guilty of making the longest sentences without commas in history!)

So I need to go out and practice and then practice some more, so I can beat the pants off of William.
