I wish I knew to tell you. Recently, I found and lost a link for poisonous insects and plants to include dangerous critters. I thought I saved it as a favorite, but it wasn't there. It was pretty good because you could put in your zip code and it tailored the info for your area. Maybe someone can help.
Hope you are feeling better.

You live in Kansas right? Maybe its a Brown Recluse?
Symptoms can vary widely between people for any kind of bite so who knows for sure... I've been bit several times here in California by Black Widows (I have this habit of sticking my hands places they live I guess) and I always end up feeling like I have the flu for 7-10 days.

Well it bit me 3 times in the back of the knee and then once on the thigh. I was sick for awhile but my leg where it bit me...made a black hole and hurt and burned really bad. Now I just have a scar. I took the picture when it fell out of my pants. So maybe it is a brown recluse...I looked up spiders..but it looks like it could be a couple of things. |

At first glance, that does not appear to be a brown recluse as it appears to be missing a "fiddle" shaped pattern on it's back. Though, now that I look again, I'm not sure if the picture is showing the underside or back of the spider. A trip to the doctor with the spider in tow could never hurt. |

Are you sure you weren't trying to put his pants on? :)
I can't tell what it is, but I've heard that Black Widows aren't always black. However, I don't think they get quite that light colored though.

If the woulnd progressed into looking like a "bullet hole" then it could most likely be a brown recluse. They are pretty common, even though yu don't see them that much. Can't tell from the picture as mentioned before, as to if it had a fiddle looking pattern on its back.

Could very well be a brown recluse. The have a violin looking marking on the back of their body. In 1224 hours the pt develops a area that resembles a bulls eye. The center often becomes blackend or bruised. It then progresses to a central vessicle that often ruptures and becomes "necrotic". ie the tissue dies in that area. Systemic symptoms are possible though not alwasy present. They can include muscle aches, malaise, etc. In rare cases they can cause problems with your blood.

Well here is a picture my husband took of the bite about an hour after it bit me. The white part..turned into this huge black mass..and started creating a hole by day 2. I was sick about 6 hours after it happened. |

how big was the spider?
hobo spiders are migrating eastward, if its an inch or so it may be one of those ( i think, not an expert ). you didn't see a doctor?
i thought brown recluse were fuzzier...

I saw a doctor, and they saw the spider too. but still weren't sure. that's why I figured there are so many people on this site..someone ought to know. Anway..as far as I know the brown recluse isn't fuzzy..that's a wolf spider or tarantula from my understanding. |

From the picture of the squished spider and the description of your symptoms it appears to be a brown recluse spider bite. From my reading and professional knowledge it does not appear that hobo spiders have migrated as far as kansas. Brown reculse spiders however are prevalent in your area. The lesion will heal on its own. Takes some time. In some cases months. If the tissue involvement is significant it may require skin grafting, but that is generally only in extreme cases.

It has started to heal..I got lucky I suppose. I looked up brown recluse spider bites and saw some nasty stuff at //www.brownrecluse.com they had this one guy with the whole top of his thigh gone. I have deep scars..but it's still really red and still burns every now and then.
Thanks everybody for your comments!!

Several years back I went to the doctor with a sore on the back of my hand that was getting worse over a couple days. He took one look at it and said "That's the second brown recluse bite I've seen today." He proceeded to numb my hand and carve a nickel sized hole about 1/4" deep out of my hand. I had to clean and change the dressing twice a day for about a week. I never saw the spider. The sore only hurt a little, but I could see what appeared to be infection radiating out from the center. I still have a scar there.
