I searched DPC Forums for the Plamp, got nothing, so assume it has not come up before. I just picked one up from B&H and used it for some macro work recently...and I love it! Great accessory...hit Google and you'll see how it can be used to hold a specimen, keep a flower still in the wind, hold a platform for a critter, or just hold the beast still while you shoot it. Link to the Wimberley site that developed it is: //www.tripodhead.com/plamp.html
Are there some other great gadgets similar to this anyone has tried? |

| Wonderfull idea however, at that price, it is more likely to inspire imitations (home-built and commercial) than to catch on and become a big selling item. |

They are great to use.
In terms of other useful gadgets, a macro rail can be real helpful if you do a lot of macro tripod work.
My favourite 'gadget' for macro work is a large black rubbish sack, that i can use to lie on.

| Just wanted to get this thread going again. Yesterday in Nature class we learned about this Plamp and got to use one. It's the best gadget ever if you're trying to shoot macro. It might seem a little pricey but it's certainly very useful. |

Can be made under $15.00. Get a plastic flex-hose used on CNC machines, an adjustable strap to attach to the camera, and a cheap clamp. You can modify to fit/work. At least I think this would work just as good.... you ideas????
You can get the clamp at Wal-Mart for about $1.00 or less.
The strap, $2.79, can be found here:

Flex-hose, $9.95, can be found here:

In the business that I call a "career", and wish like hell I had stayed awake more in my college classes so that I would be making a paycheck in another field, we have a similar tool that is used on occasion when rigging for lights.
It is called an Adjustable Grip Arm.
A bit more beefy, no plastic parts, and basically does the same thing as the Plamp.
