Ok - so despite much head scratching and some friendly help - I am still struggling to embed a hyperlink in an image in the same way that Roz (and I'm sure many others) has.
For an example I would refer you to exhibit 'A' on Roz's homepage - the banner marked 'www.rozdesign.net/index.html' and leading to her website ( well worth a visit by the way ).
I have tried various approaches with varying degrees of success but cannot yet replicate it for my website.
Who can step forward and show me how surprisingly simple this is ?

CLICK BELOW TO ENTER MY WEBSITE
That's the code, from View>page source in firefox menu.

Thanks Bear - Roz was kind enough to share that piece of code with me - but I got a bit lost on the line

I can see the next bit is the specific thumbnail - but what are the three sets of numerics above referring to ? |

Jumping in to say--who knows, really, except that those are subfolders, arbitrary for our purposes, and not necessary to know anything about :) |

Here's what I use:
[url=WEBPAGE URL HERE][img]IMAGE URL HERE[/img][/url]
I used that simple BBCode template for the clickable songbird logo in this thread
Were you wanting HTML that will work anywhere, or just something for DPC or other forums that use BBCode?

If you right-click on that banner in Roz's portfolio and click "view image info", then //images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65000-69999/67145/800/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_876000.jpg shows up as the url of the image, and of course it becomes clickable here.
In my portfolio page, my "no comments" ribbon renders thusly: //images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/30000-34999/30982/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_410590.gif
I didn't do anything special to make that happen.
So I deduce if you put your banner art in your portfolio, all that gets appended to it by DPC.

Guy's - thanks for jumping in.
Bear_Music I am trying to link from the image to my own website rather than just within DPC
Yo_Spiff that's the first path I tried - but it's a little trickier than that. The banner is on DPC - but the website is elsewhere.
So I can get the functionality to work but the banner doesn't show (just a red cross and image number) still goes if you click on it though., or the banner to show and the external url to show alongside it . obviously neither of these is perfect.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something really simple, and I've tried mimicking Roz's coding but get lost on what to enter for the row of numbers.

OK - forget some, all, or much, of that :- )
I think I am waking up and see the issue - even if not yet the full answer.
You have both been most helpful and for that I thank you. |

That's it - it's done !
This thinking out loud works wonders sometimes - Roz, Steve and Robert were all correct and the answer really was there all along :- )
Now I will just have to do more work on my banner - but that will be another night.
In the meantime if any of you want to try out my new toy - please feel free.

Not an issue. The image URL and website URL can be in completely different places.
Click on this Flickr logo and see where it takes you.

I posted the previous before reading the rest of the posts. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting one's head wrapped around the concept and then it becomes clear. |

You skipped over my later ramblings :- )
I'm there thank you - and the proof is on my home page for all to see.
Thanks again. |
