Just did some test shots in dark sky conditions last night:
Impressions of the 7D so far. Incredible performance re: focusing and burst mode. Great detail in images (18 megapixels!). Feels great in the hand. Great battery performance. Very satisfying low - light performance (see astro shot above - no noise reduction).
So far loving the 7D!

Nice! The 7D is a crop sensor, right? How big are the RAW files?
I bet you'll have fun going to ISO 10,000 and beyond... |

| Any chance you can upload the original file? Would love to see it at 100% magnification. |

Great shot, the camera works well for astro. Brian ironpan uses his for some of his astro work. PM him for any info you need about this topic. He isn't very active here as he spends all his free time in his observatory. I'll give you a link to his website, it shows his drag racing, but also links to his astro work.

I think he has the 7D?? Not too sure tho:)

Grats on your new body, I still love mine and the IR trigger for the flash rocks!! I haven't had any problems at all with it and I can put my 430ex anywhere in a room including just behind me and it will still trigger.

How do you enable the flash trigger. I'm too lazy to look in the manual. |

Here is an "original pixels" crop of that shot, for those who want the ugly truth!
@Jac
There's lots of astro stuff on DPC: check out:
Astrophotography Gallery and this tutorial (not blowing my own horn, or anything). |

Only the Canon ST-E2 triggers other flashes using IR. The 7D uses coded pulses of visible light just like the 580ex. That's why you have to pop the flash up to use it in master mode.
sorry for the side track |
