Well, I have to post it here otherwise I'd be submitting it for the current challenge (2 min job so a bit rough). I caught this poppy swaying in the wind and thought the crop added to the feeling of movement?

I like it.

I have an idea for selective desaturation, but there's no way I can finish it today :/

I think it's a good attempt...why didn't you want to enter it?

I reckon there will be lots of much better flower pics. I prefer my (current)submission and only hope the voters do as well :)

Darn! I was gong to come home and finish editing one of my quickie flower attempts that I had come to like - - - -but then I saw this one of yours. This one would have stood out to me even amongst all the flowers I know we are going to get. I will keep mine to myself now! BEAUTIFUL shot and I think, unique.

hmm, the more I think about it the more I reckon I should have submitted it (cleaned up). I went back to my current submission but don't like it as much now - doh! maybe I shouldn't have posted this. Am busily trying to reshoot the submission.

I first submitted a similar picture (a different flower, but similar idea).
Looked at it, liked it, looked at it again and knew that this would not stand out against the rest...

I then came up with a very different idea when I was driving home, shot it, desaturized it and this one I still like....

I hope I do well, it's NOT a flower :)

Great pic btw, would have won over my flower...

More flowers? Maybe the name of this site should be DFChallenge. Digital Flower Challenge.

hehe, if its well done then does it really matter? however, that is one of the reasons I chose a different subject. After several rejects I hope my submission does well and may even get a dq request :)

I have nothing against flowers, if they're portrayed well! Your poppy is beautiful!

I have entered my submission (submissed my entering?? how do I say this right?!?!!) yesterday and am pretty confident about it!

Then again, I'm always confident and then I wake up at Monday mornings and see my photo has fallen under 5.0 again :P
I find it hard to be original. Or let me rephrase that: I find it hard to figure out what others find original. Many times I have an idea I think is very nice, then many others did too and photographed the same  !! Sometimes I have a small hunch that maybe one or two will come up with the same (like the nosepicking job!!) and I have the same hunch now...let's see tomorrow!!!

Good luck everybody!!

Well, I very much doubt anybody will submit a picture of my subject and if they do I may well know them, if I don't then I should :) It will be interesting to see how I score, am looking for 5+ (thats good for me).

Well, maybe I should have submitted the poppy :( Woke up this morning to a 4.2 that has now grown to 4.6 (46 votes). 2 comments, one very complimentary t'other commenting on ps'd colours (and some valid comments/suggestions on the rest of the pic). OK so its maybe not the best photo in the world but the colours are as they were in the orig, I guess because its not an everyday sight that I'm getting so many 3's?
06/21/2004 06:41:39 PM · #13
ok, so I'm talking to myself but my submission has his 5.000 after 68 votes, thats quite a jump I reckon :) I'm feeling better now.

I didn't enter this one. I had thought about this photo for the technique but couldn't remember if it had been taken within the challenge dates and then yesterday I never got a chance to try it. I tried it today for the heck of it. I'm not a fan of selective desaturation so it's hard for me to have a really objective opinion, especially where my own work is involved.

Melissa, that's beautiful! It's unique as well. It would have scored well. :o)

BTW, my preference is for the original.

This is my first desaturation attempt. I was advised to enter this one to satisfy a DPC appetite, but decided to enter something I like instead. Of course, I'm being clobbered for this, again. ;-)

I have to agree that the orig is better and whilst I do like the desat (very much) this proves that there is a time and a place for using desat. I'd also like to see this with the 'real' sky cropped out and realigned.

Thanks, Laurie. I wish I hadn't gotten bogged down this week. At any rate, I can't remember if I took this photo on Sunday or Monday. I was retracing my steps in bed Saturday night with the intention of working on it Sunday but totally forgot until it was too late. It won't kill me to miss a challenge, I guess.

I don't have software for extracting the exi--whatever--- info. :-D They all seem to be for Windows. iPhoto is on my other computer but that seems to automatically set the date to the time the photo was uploaded. I should check the old Nikon software and see if that does it. I don't use that software since I got the card reader a long time ago.

I'll check that right now! (she says, thinking out loud)

Zeuszen- that's a great pic of the puppy. That yellow ball really stands out. You know, hindsight's 20-20! :o)

I like this one, Zeus, because it is hard to tell if you used PS or if it is just a really monochromatic background (including the b&w dog, of course). I saw a photo in the challenge that I thought might be yours but I don't want to give any revealing info.

I grew up with a dalmation and my parents still have one, they are the most stupid dogs I know but have great character, memories would have added a 1 to my vote of 7.

I, too, use iPhoto. It extracts the EXIF data very reliably and correctly from the card via QuickTime which is synced with the iLife apps.
There are four date fields under the Photo tab: Original, Digitized, Modified and Imported. The one relevant here is the Original date. If this is incorrect, you should check your in-camera setting.

wow-- that dog, the lighting is amazing, it is sharp, the yellow ball is a great compliment and highlight to the b & w in the rest of it, and it seems so natural that the yellow would be the part standing out. The eye contact and ever so subtle blue in the eye is a great touch too. The shaking and head position also add to the charm of this pooch, very nice shot!! Fits the challenge very well, would of gotten at least a 7 from me as well.
OH yeah and how did you get its ear to stand up like that : )

;-) Hey, it would have been the perfect breed for this challenge then, not to mention some of the commentors, even though the word 'huh' was correctly spelled.
