My first portraits brought comments from members that I was manipulating images too much. Here's Jennifer at 18, before her first formal ball. Image softened with Elements 2 Distort/Diffuse Glow. More comments welcome - should I just use the unadulterated version?

I like the glowing version myself, but I'm kind of a closet diffuse glow junkie anyway. ;o) Nice portrait, either one.

I am a fan of the soft, diffused look. I like both. There is something about the first I am trying to figure out that bothers me, though. Not enough glow to differentiate it from just blurry? A little too soft of color range? I am sure others here can give you much better advice, but trying to help!

You and I seem to have a lot of "closet" tendancies! Flowers, fuzzies, glows, . . . .

I like the first one as well. I like freckles, but the softening (and the crop) on the first one tends to soften the cute look and give this a more grown up feel, which young teens like.

In the full shot the pose doesn't look comfortable to me and I'm not too crazy about the gown. I don't know if it's the color or the fit?

Just my thoughts.

First pic, too much glow or not enough warmth and contrast, perhaps both. Try going lighter on the glow or warming the shot up a touch with levels before you apply the effect...

I thought at first that the first one needed a bit more contrast.. but then I thought it has this wonderful appeal as it is.
The pose/portrait is beautiful, and of course, your subject is, but the expression you caught really makes it.
I am torn about the technical aspects, yet emotionally feel it is wonderful.
Nice job!
