I was curious as the 'DPL' voting appears to be much harsher than regular voting since more voters have a stake in voting others down...

So I took the 10 completed challenges for 'DPL' and compared them with the 10 pre-'DPL' challenges (no Free Study and did not include the 'DPL' "break" weeks).

Surprisingly this is what I found.

Votes are actually UP for the 'DPL' challenges -- only .05, but up nevertheless. Which I would assume in statistically insignificant and that the voting for the 'DPL' is essentially the same for the non-'DPL' challenges.

G'figure!

Nearly double the entries too. that is the most impressive part of that number.

Yep. More participation in the site and it truly does NOT affect your scores.

I think blindly not letting votes count that you cast on your opponents entries would remove the idea that people are voting others down. Just remove them at rollover and remove that argument both from non-'dpl' participants and from those that may be doing that.

I love double the entries and there is fantastic creativity going on!

I'd be interested in figuring out how the top end of the voting scale has changed. It seems like that's lower to me during 'DPL'. The curve is skewed more at the top (people voting "the good stuff" down a bit) and it doesn't affect the average as much.

I scored my first 7+ entry during a 'DPL' week and others have gotten their first ribbons. I don't know if that makes any difference or not in your thought process.

Join the club. Guess I just don't have the BMT for 'DPL'... :-(

Well, that does explain the perception of lower scores..

Essentially, there is a larger field, with better work (some old, big guns have come out for 'DPL'), so naturally, your work is being judged against a tougher field...

In essence, while the overall average hasn't changed, the quality at the top end has..

Keep up or kill your shutter trying. :)

Bah, this had nothing to do with 'DPL'....

Matt, if you hadn't ribboned in Sports, I would have been concerned.

I'm entering more because of 'DPL' and still not voting.
