I don't take many sports photos but I really liked the story this told. It kind of reminded me of a Norman Rockwell moment. Just wondering why it didn't score higher.

I think this comment is the most telling
"yes, it tells the story, but don't you hate it when you get there a half-second too late..."

I think the best sports shots have that "tension of the moment". This is just after that moment unfortunately. The players are just starting to relax after the play.

It really does tell the story though and in that you succeeded well.

citadel's exactly right. The dust cloud is truly wonderful, and you were SO close. But in sports, you expect the action shot. Since this is actually after the slide, it looks more like he's crawling into the base instead of sliding in. 1/2 second earlier and it would have been a spectacular shot!

Funny, that's part of the reason I liked it so much (then again, I really like baseball games more in depth than others). I gave it an 8, and thought it was really great. :)

I gave it a 6, btw

I agree. I feel like I would have missed the special moment of the baseman looking at the ump and the ump with his arms out telling him the runner was safe. I really loved the moment I captured! If I would have caught it a moment earlier, I would have missed all this. I agree, action is good and by the score I guess most people think the same way but this seemed really special to me. I don't feel like I missed the moment at all. A moment earlier would have showed the guy diving but I thought this told much more of a story.
edit to add...I love the stance and the look that the third baseman has. (even though you can't see his face)

I like what you captured here but subtle just doesn't work at DPC and the faces being hidden didn't help any. What you tried to convey in a real scene is far more difficult than it would have been had it been staged but voters rarely reward that.
