Good morning fellow DPCers.
Most of you guessed it! The two shots were taken at the same location... our new cottage. Lili is my partner in crime (and is in many of my shots on DPC).
The photos were taken on two separate days during the challenge week but when I uploaded mine I forgot to change the date (as I often do :-P). And She did too come to think of it.
I had the idea from day 1 to shoot my concept on the rock and Lili thought long and hard to find a nice capture for her fisherman idea. She tried the dock, the shoreline... nothing that satified her. When she saw the results of my shot, she decided to give it a try too. As you can see the shot turned out amazing! At first she didn't want to submit saying it was too similar. I conviced her to submit and I'm glad she did!
As for doing a horizontal flip... I'm the guilty one. :-) Even before taking the shot, I knew I would do this as I think it has more visual appeal for the chosen composition. It wasn't done to try to "fool" fellow DPCers. :-)
Well, I'm 2 for 2 with cottage shots... I might start selling weekend getaways here to fellow DPCers eager to win a ribbon!!! LOL ;-)
We both thank you for the wonderfull comments and you can be assured that both shots will be framed at the cottage very soon!!:-D

Well congrats to both of you for the ribbons and for the beautiful cottage. What a gorgeous place to live! I hope the paparazzi don't disturb your peace and quiet there, with you both being celebrities and all! ;o)

Congrats to you both on the ribbons, and on having such a beautiful place to call your own!

Darn. I had quite a nice conspiracy theory brewing too - involving alien abductions, time travel and parallel universes.
; )
Congrats to both of you.

I have to say that I find this highly unoriginal of you two using a used idea on two almost identical shots.......
But I guess its fun to get a ribbon even if its for a cliche shot, and you get my congrats ....

Feeling used?
Hmm... I guess you thought that rocks in water with nice vistas only happen in Iceland, eh? Or that you`re the first to shoot someone sitting on a rock popping out of the water? Hee hee. Makes me laugh.
People get inspired by what they see. It is also human nature to copy or imitate. You should be flattered (not saying that the ribbon winners were inspired by you, of course). To be honest, I'm probably going to try this type of shot myself one day.
Congrats to Parentx, Kosmikkreeper for their fine showing and to Nazgul for his equally interesting shot submitted for the Centered Composition challenge.

Meaning I'd be reluctant to cry out how cliché and unoriginal a shot is when my top rated photo had the same subject matter.
I might be wrong. If yours was the first photo in history to depict a person sitting on a rock, I extend my applogies.

Well maybe I should have kept my big mouth shut...
If people really think I take this seriosly or am offended in any way i stand to correct them.
It just strikes me when people either use their own ideas over and over or in some obvious way use other peoples ideas in their own work, and think its unoriginal.
Thank god my ideas and opinions when all things are considered are not worth a penny!
And I am not talking photographic history I´m not much into that, I narrowed it down to DPC history ...

So I guess they got a BIG ole fan & blew the clouds away that are in one photo in the few minutes before the sun totally disappeared, right? ;)

THANKYOU LtHousLady!!!
I said the same thing yesterday when the results came out.
Maybe a huge fan like that caused the major USA blackouts??

Where can I get one of those fans? It's about 87°F in my apartment right now!

It's a little unsettling to see two shots so similar in first and second place now, but I am very disappointed that you guys couldn't find another photographer to park a heron on that rock and go for the hat trick! ;-) |
