Maybe after the 'A is For_____' challenge there has been a sudden goodwill backlash! |

I'm new here and this was my first challenge. I can't help but notice the trends in these submissions. What does it say about us?
Message edited by karmat - please don't discuss or "call out" entries still in voting. Thanks.. |

It says many people try to please voters with clicheish and/or funny setups, seeking for the dpc-wow-type of image. That has been, and it will continue to be, the rule here so we better live with it and try to have fun. A good thing is that regardless the clicheishness of the image, there is a lot of learning, or practicing, involved (lighting, composition, exposure, etc) if you want those images to be appealing to dpc voters. You should be warned though that this style will hardly be appreciated outside dpc. Don't even try to send to 1X something like it :-)

Yes, there are many variations on a few themes in this one, but it seems to me that a higher percentage than usual are very well executed. I didn't enter this one, just stopped by to offer a general, "well done" to those of you who did. I'm really enjoying these shots.

I don't see shooting for oneself or shooting for the voters as a bad thing. If you shoot for yourself, hang the score, great! If you shoot for score, every 0.001 counts, great! I see the first as personal growth, and the second as technical growth.
If you want to do gallery work, I recommend the first. If you want to do commission work for clients, I recommend the second. Neither one is wrong. One is self satisfaction, the other is meeting the needs/wishes of another.

I agree.
Sticking with DPC is rather like serving an apprenticeship; you learn from the people that are better than you and then apply what you've learned to your everyday photography - suddenly you're a better photographer!
Seeing as this is a Scores Thread, I'd better add that the one thing you may never learn is what goes through people's minds when they're scoring your image.
My 61st voter just gave me a 4. I'm currently in the high sixes with 5 positive comments so I can't complain. |

calling all trolls . . . come on, let's see what you got! Seems a tad soft and wimpy for trolls these days.

Did folks just stop voting the camera bag challenge or what?
Mine has sat at 79 votes for a whole day.

yup. When the new challenges start, people are more interested in them, for a little while, then they come back.

Clinging on to that 6! It keeps dropping to 6.0000 even then coming back up a little and going back down a little. Very stable score, actually, but I really want to keep that 6, and it keeps teasing me... :)

I know this is going to be like slowing down to watching an accident, but nonetheless, I am compelled to head over to Slippy-TV and have a look. |

A few beers later, while sitting on the can, inspiration arrived.

I should have just found an auto accident to watch instead. But I did leave you a comment to help you in your push toward YouTube stardom. When you make the big time, remember the little people who helped you get there. |

It finally happened to me on April's free study -- no comments during the challenge. You can get a nifty ribbon for it!
