hi Guys, Id call myself rather proficient with photoshop I have a purchased copy of CS4 . The problem I have is that I cant make any selection on Photos today, yesterday it was fine. So Selections cropping etc is all out, I can make new layers & use levels etc but just No selections.. the curser looks like the hand when I try. Any thoughts?

I have CS3, and that happens to me some times too. *shrug* I don't have a clue what's causing it. I just end up having to open and close Photoshop several times until it starts working again.

I'll shoot for the obvious... You've restarted the program, correct? Rebooted? I've had this happen to me, and while there may be science rather than magic behind it, sometimes just ALT Tabbing and coming back to the program works.

I think you just need to hit the spacebar

I dont know what it does, but the space bar sorted it out.. Thanks Art, do you know what caused it or what that did to fix it?

Don't know what caused it but it is a common problem and I remembered the solution last time I looked for it.
Also, my motto is "When there's a problem, just start pounding on the keyboard like a maniac." - that has served me well. |

If it's any consolation this "feature" has been plaguing digital artists since at least Photoshop 5.0 -- I can verify (as of today) that it still functions exactly the same way. ;-)

Be aware that spacebar ALWAYS toggles the hand, no matter what tool you are using; very handy if you need to move around whilst working. Seems like every now and then PS gets the idea the spacebar is being held down, and when that happens a tap on the spacebar often will take care of it. Interestingly, if you're on a desktop machine, with a USB keyboard, unplugging it will fix the problem even if the tap does not, but if you're using the old serial-connector keyboards, that didn't work. Those may not even exist anymore though :-)
