I came up with a decent 3 shot sequence at a football game last night... They aren't particularly great photos but its the first time I have come up with a sequence that worked...

Very well captured John. I was about to start a similar thread, so I thought I'd post here instead. (Hope that's OK)
I used my 20D and 70-200 L f/4 the other day and tried out the 5 FPS with the AI Servo and came up with some pretty good shots.
Here's one of my favorite sequence shots:

The 5 FPS along with a fast focusing lens combo is really great. Most of the shots came out pretty good, and I was out on the side lines.

Both of those are effective action sequences, although both could probably use some cropping to bring the action a little more "in-your-face".
I believe that's one of the limitations on my Rebel. You can't force AI Servo mode. There are lots of times I'd like to use it for things like this.
How do you set it on the 10D, mariomel? The only way I can force it is sports mode, but I almost never shoot in the automatic modes.

I also have the DRebel. I almost never used this feature on this camera, because I could not force AI Servo. You could coax it in, but you were limited to once sequence before having to coax it in again. Very annoying! I didn't use the auto mode, because it would force JPEG (instead of RAW) and forced ISO 400. Also annoying!
On the 20D (and 10D I believe), you just tell it to go to Ai Servo and you're there for as long as you need. Very nice. You can shoot in any file format you want and at any ISO. I just put it in multi-shot mode, Ai Servo and set all the focus points and went for it. The only thing I could not do was stop the AI Servo from constantly focusing when the action was still. I know there's a way to do it using the * button and CF functions, but I am having a hard time figuring it out.

When set as you describe does the 20D refocus for every shot in the sequence, and if so, does that slow your burst rate? |

To the best of my knowledge, it does not slow the burst rate. I'm pretty sure that the burst rate in calculated including the time to refocus in AI Servo. It also calculates the proper exposure for every burst. You are not locked into one set exposure.
