I have gotten two of my photographs published in a local newsletter. Pretty exciting hehe! However, I am unsure about whether I should be paid for it or not...it is a free online newsletter and I am pretty sure that it is non-profit.
Here is a link... I have two shots credited to me (both "Resecoir Park"s). Anyone have any ideas.
Cool to see my stuff published though!

| I would not call an online blog "published". As a photographer for the AP, I know how much fun having someone recognize your photographic talents is. Alas, I would like you to talk with your local news paper about a job 'stringing.' Look at this as a foot in the door, and good luck. |

"Stringing" (a trade term) is the practice of shooting news, and then selling your photos to a news paper that you have a relationship with. It is like freelance work, but you know that you will get paid something for your time. I grew up stringing for a local paper in san francisco since i was 16, and it lead me into photographic journalism. I still string on the weekends, for fun and the challenge of shooting situations that I have no time to prep for. If you have photojournalism questions you can email me adam@genaron.com

| Also, just some comments on your pictures. Any time I am shooting outside I use a CP (circular polarizing) filter. I have CPs for all my lenses. It would help you bring out the trees and darken the blues in the sky without loosing contrast. Also a CP can help reduce reflections in flash photography. |

| One last thing, your picture "reflections of summer" would make a sellable print in many art houses. |

This is a good link to breaking in to news in general. Just replace the word "writer" for "photographer."

I'm a stringer for my local newspaper and have been doing high school football games on Friday nights. Most of these published photos are a result of that... these are scans from the newspaper and not many of them do the original photo justice at all...

I got this position simply by asking at the right time. I wanted to get on the sidelines at football games, so I sent an email to a friend of mine who works for the local paper. He forwarded it to the head photographer. It just so happens that they were looking for a stringer at the time. They gave me an interview with the editor and head photographer. I told them I had never done sports photography before but that I had adequate equipment for it. They wanted to see some of my "Human Interest" photography so I showed them my My Town series and they gave me the spot.
I have enjoyed it tremendously and I have learned a lot at the same time...

Love your work... You should think of moving up in the world. I don't know If photography is your hobby or profession but you could make something out of it with the photos I have seen.
Just trying to give you a push. PS: I envy your connection with the DPC crowd. Nice!

Very cool, Lee. Congrats!
A Photoshopped version of my very first challenge entry was just used in a newspaper ad last week. A pharmacy ran it under the headline, "All Better!" in an ad about formulating medicines to taste better for kids. |
