I know a lot of you took Halloween pictures... let's see them. Here is one I took of my daughter. I thought about putting it into the October Free study, but I have found that I can't handle criticism of her pictures...

I took this picture of my sister in her Halloween costume. I know the colors look a bit unnatural but it was my first serious attempt at a portrait so cut me some slack! //www.pbase.com/chiqui74/image/35026544

Amanda's costume (and your picture of it) is awesome!

Great job.

Gordon that is spooky :)
Very well done.

You should send that photo to Carrie-Anne Moss's agent maybe they could use her as a double sometime :)

Can you give us any tips on how you created this shot?
It is my guess you cut/pasted Amanda onto this background.

We had an adult halloween party and here are the photos. There are several almost alike. We had it in the garage/outside and used a fogger machine so some are very hazy. I was going to take everyones pictures in the studio, but it was too hot in there with the costumes, plus after a couple of drinks for me, I knew it wouldn't be worth it. lol We had some very nice costume.

Bren

Your photos are very nice. Looks like the party was alot of fun :)

As you said it is to bad you couldn't have gotten some studio portraits of those great colorful costumes.

Also I really like your website it is simple and yet very professional and your portflio looks very nice also.

Thanks RHolden. We did have a great time. I was so tired after cooking and cleaning all week that I wasn't into taking photos that night. All I wanted to do was let loose and relax, which I did and paid for it Sun.

edit to add: Thanks for the compliment on my site. As you can tell I am still in the learning stage of studio shooting, but I am sure enjoying it.

It was shot against a brightly lit white background (actally some blinds) which gave me a well exposed subject and a bright, white background which was easy to create a mask from (using one of the channels as the basis)
I then thresholded the mask to cut her out of the scene. Took about 3 mouse clicks to do the entire selection/ cut out. Used a colour balance adjustment layer to get the green tinge. I then used a outline layer style (outer glow) to add the green glow around the cutout.

Background: texture grain, vertical mode, high contrast, green colour. Then duplicated and used the wind filter to give some movement merged that down to create the background and used neon glow on the whole thing to give the final effect.

Text: Times New Roman font. Rasterised the font layer. Messed around with it a bit using select and moves to make the slightly disjoint feel. Drew in the lines between some of the letters with a thick brush. Filtered it a bit (motion blur filters, neon glow sort of things)

Took about 20 minutes all in.
