Anyone ever heard of this camera or brand? I was thinking of getting it for my Dad for Christmas. 4mp and the specs seem okay. With a budget of $200CND the price is right. Thoughts?
Thanks,

I wouldn't buy it. The specs say "Internal Memory" is 16mb. The info says this is built in memory so it appears you can't add a card to get more. So with a 4mb camera you'll only be able to store 4 pictures.
Although it has a "Digital Media" spec which mentions "SD" but when you popup the help on it, it doesn't mention what SD means (only mentions CF and smart cards).
If your Dad is a newbie to photography and 4meg pixels isn't important to him, or he would not know the difference or require it, why not shop for a brand name with less mega pixels? For the same price, I'd rather have a quality camera with less MP then a piece of junk with more.

SD means Secure Digital..well ordinarily. You could be right about this camera. I'm also thinking about a cheapy Olympus. I'm a canon fan myself but I know he won't care. He loves gadgets and has been using a digicam from the Ark. lol..well it uses a FLOPPY DISC anyway. *shakes head*
I think I'll get the olympus! What the hay! |

Oh man, he has a camera that uses a floppy disk?? LOL. Didn't Sony have one of these? It had a disk that you put into the camera which made the whole camera huge and round like the disk. :)
A quality camera will have more "gadet" type functions he can play with, whereas a no-name will probably just become boring after a while. Go for the Olympus!

You can probably get a 3 or 4 megapixel for about that same price in a name brand. Did you check out DP Review? You can search by options (mp and $ are ones).
EDIT: I just did a Features Search for 4 mp and <$400 and it gave me: Casio QV-R40, Fujifilm FinePix A340, Canon PowerShot A80, Canon PowerShot A85, Canon PowerShot S410, Casio Exilim EX-Z40, Canon PowerShot SD10, Epson PhotoPC L-400, Epson PhotoPC L-410, Canon PowerShot SD300. They're in order of increasing price starting at $204 up to $400.

You can also get a Canon S1 IS (3MP; auto & manual controls; 10x Image-Stabilized zoom) for about $400 or less. |

SD is the external memory, the problem here is that I believe, it isn't a good idea to buy unknown brands and models - this is bacause
a) Its just plain un-cool to be caring around
b) The support services are usually crap or non-existance
Always good to be able to look up FAQs, User Manuals and on-line help if a problem should arise
c) less problems arise from the well known brands
d) The well-known brands got there good name for a reason
I wouldn't buy anything else than
Canon, Olympus, Sony, Kodak, Nikon or Fuji
- In that order :)
So pay that little more $$$ and you will not be dissapointed

You can get the Nikon Coolpix 4300 for under US$300. I own this camera and it's a pleasure to use. It takes fabulous pictures. |

HEy all, thanks for the advice! I bought an Olympus for him. It's 3pm with optical zoom so it's worthy of the $170CND. I had a budget of a max. $200CND. Anything is better than his HUGE floppy disc thingy he's currently using. THey can't even take it on vacation since each disc only tolds 6-7 pictures and then has to be uploaded. lol |

Hey, dont laugh I still have one of those floppy disk cameras...from Sony. Hahahhaha. I thought it was great when it came out because you were not tied to any particular software or computer to view the photos. Then they came out with the one that uses CDRW media...which was a huge leap and my old office still has a few of them they use for austere environments when they are going to be gone but need photo capability and ability to use anyones system and download photos.
Alas, that is also why I am going with a new camera in the very near future...like next week or maybe for Christmas if the wife throws a FILIBUSTER into my plans...LOL
