From the Washington Post-
On the front of the candle is "Our Lady of Fair Elections," pictured with a pile of ballots at her feet. On the back, a plea:
"I place my feeble vote in your hands that mine might be counted," it reads. "Ensure each chad is completely removed . . . and give me the patience to endure as many recounts as I must."
To my fellow Americans. Don't forget that at the end of the day we are all first, last and always Americans. Get out and vote today. :)
This is a non-partisan post and partisan BS shall be ignored. :)

I have not gone to vote yet but from what I'm hearing on the radio there are lots of problems going on. Thousands in Ohio, for example, will be challenged as to their rights to vote.
You have the right to vote!
If you feel that your right to vote has been denied, or to report any kinds of problems, here are a few phone numbers for you to call to speak with people (lawyers?) who can help you.
1-866-ourvote
1-866-myvote
Also, if you are unsure of where to go to vote you can go to this web site to find out where, and what kinds of machines will be used there. The web site will also teach you how to use the machine.

I voted by absentee ballot a couple of weeks ago. No lines, no crowds. Those of you who didn't vote already, remember that your employer is required to give you time to go vote. So that isn't an excuse. (Of course, in my job, if I took time to go vote, I'd still have the same amount of work to do. Huh. I guess that's why I did it by mail.)

Yes, you are right about the phone number...I heard about these phone numbers on the radio and will find out more about them. I did check web site which does in fact exist. Thanks for pointing it out.

Actually, last I heard (last night), a judge banded the challengers from the polling locations in Ohio.

This is what I heard this morning about Ohio:
Federal Appeals Courts Oks GOP Challenges at Polls
Late last night a federal appeals court in Ohio reversed two lower court rulings and ruled that Republicans will be allowed to send thousands of operatives into the polls today to challenge the eligibility of voters. A pair of Ohio civil rights activists had sued the state to block the challenges saying they were unconstitutional and that the law allowing the challengers dated back to the Jim Crow Era. Both Kerry and Bush view Ohio as a must-win state.

CINCINNATI, Ohio (AP) -- Giving a pre-dawn Election Day boost to the GOP, the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to stay an appeals court ruling allowing political parties to send people to polls in Ohio to challenge voters' eligibility.

Here's an update: You are correct, Refracted, the 866-myvote phone number is invalid, but the 866-ourvote phone number is a working number and you will be able to speak with someone about the problems you are having at the polls. They will also help you if you are unaware of your polling place.

On the news today, they said that the US is predicting a record number of voters..something like 60% of elligible voters. That's crazy, in a good way.
Canadians who pray are certainly praying for our neighbors today.

I guess this goes to show how great of a job D&L have done here. We have 2-3 votes a week and have no where near the problems the federal and state governments have.
Word to the wise, vote as early as you can. The problems are going to get worse and the lines are going to get longer as the day goes on.
Also, BE PATIENT. The people working at the polls have a thankless job. It's not their fault you have to wait in line. Be sure to thank them for their efforts.

That's still not a lot. During Canada's recent election we got voter turn out at 61.2% which was our lowest ever since 1898. you get into the 70s and that's pretty good voter turnout.

Representative government in action.
...and my kittens are attacking my polling information. That has to be ungood.

The last vote in Calgary had a turn out of 27% (give or take a few points)..not federal, but still, there was a heavy "get out and vote" campaign. I'll admit, I'm not a registered voter and I didn't vote because I didn't know the issues or the candidates. |

Just got back from voting and I have to say 5 minutes in/out. A friend of mine in NYC, though, took her over 2 hours. Lines are going to be even worse later this evening. I believe that once you are online they can't turn you away even if it's past the time that the polls are supposed to close. |

More accurately, it was acting-Chief Justice Stevens, a liberal, who declined to hear the case.
(Just clarifying that this is not a "conservative-controlled supreme court" issue.)

I went in about 7:30am this morning and there was a huge line, so I left. I went back a little after 3pm today and walked in and out in about 10 minutes.
