Just a few hours ago I was just over 6.3 for the implied lines challenge, my best score ever, now Im at 6.24, with nearly 200 votes, someone is throwing around some 1's - I will never understand why people do this. I know my shots are not the best, but when I do manage to squeak out a good photo, please give me a break! I'm dont ranting, I feel better now... : )

Maybe they just didn't like your photo. I've given very low scores to ribbon winners...doesn't mean I'm a troll, just means I have a different opinion than the majority.

Lucky you. You are in a position where the troller is simply pesky. I have been hit by these people right at the close, like delivering a poison dart.

I know, we hate to see those fraction decrease, but smile you are above the trollers real damage. For the general public my lowest vote in this challenge has been 5.

I wish you luck and hope you get another vote to cancell the creep.

Some people go back and adjust their votes after they have voted on all the pictures. Your lower score could be a result of this adjustment. But go ahead and let off steam. Feels good sometimes.
carry on
edit: For the record, it wasn't me. I voted a few days ago and never looked back.

I didn't think anybody met the challenge, so I just gave everybody a "1". :)

Thought I was seeing things...

Mine was hovering around 6.2 until recently. Just went down to 6.1921, then just dropped again. Now at 6.1863 but 1 fav added. ???
So somebody added it as a fav and scored it low?

WTF?

Edited to add:
I have seen this so many times, especially when doing well in a challenge. I see the scores stay really steady for days, then drop like a rock in the last hour or two, without adding a bunch of new votes...

this may be a little off subject, but i sometimes wonder if people have several different accts to give themselves 10's. i am sometimes a little shocked on a few of the results...i dont know just a thought

My score has been so embarrassing, I hadn't even noticed the trolls.

The admins/SC are usually pretty good at catching and dealing with this type of thing.

I'm getting hit too.. fell 0.04 in the last two votes I received.. but I don't blame it on "troll voting."

I blame it on the usual "end of challenge speed voting" that goes on.

This is people voting fast when they realize that they only have a couple of hours left to vote... or to try and finish voting.

It can very often end up in shots either getting higher votes than they would with more consideration, or lower shots than they would with more consideration.

I think over-all it tends to even out, in the end.

What it all comes down to is, you get what you get in the end. No matter how pissed about it you want to get. Venting, however, can be fun :)

*edited* oops.. 0.02 was incorrect.. I fell 0.04 heh.. so changed that.

yeah, mine dropped quite a bit in the last few hours,
oh well...
it's not one of my favorites anyways.

Mine's sunk from about a 5.35 to 5.15-5.2 whereabouts.

I think one of those trolls may have stolen my last beer.

But I think they vote pretty well. :)

Personally, I think that a lot of people adjust their votes on the last day. Whether it is that they want to 'rank' the shots they think should win, or that their interpretation with respect to voting has changed after they finished getting through the pictures, if a number of people lower their vote for your shot, it may appear like you have been 'trolled.' I know that I have changed many votes near the end of the challenge, both increasing scores and decreasing scores.

I don't think I've ever given a score below "6" on a ribbon winner. People's different likes and dislikes are really interesting to me. I've also given really high scores (like a 8 or so) to pictures that were in the lower 1/3rd of the popular vote. Would be interesting to have a page or feature that gives more statistics on this, and voting patterns in general.

Anybody getting adjusted up instead of down?

Maybe someone score you low...and someone who has been done voting, went back through and added their 10's to their favorites? Votes and comments don't always go together, and score changes don't always reflect who gave you what.

Mine's been rising a bit for the past hour or so... From 5.53 to 5.58, with 201 votes so far.

Looking back through the past challenge winners, I'd say the voters on this site do a pretty good job. It's hard to argue with those results.

Not me. I've had mine drop by .15 in the past few minutes.

Sad to say that even at this late hour, I'm still updating my score every few minutes. I'm a sad case.

I am just glad to see this one end! Now if we could just get rid of Poverty . . .
10/31/2004 11:59:52 PM · #22
my scores just dropped big time in the last 15 minutes....oh well what can you do?
11/01/2004 12:03:48 AM · #23
Ok.. sorry.. you're all going to hate me but..

lol.. I dropped from 6.7 to 6.64 in an hour before the challenge ended.

Which kept me from the red ribbon.

I know, boohoo poor me. lol.

Look for my "How I did it" post coming soon!

These drops or gains in scores may be due (after it is over) to all the people who did not vote on the percentage needed.

It's the "Votescrubber". It takes the statistically aberrent voters and disallows all their votes, it then also removes all the votes from voters that did not vote on enough entries, then it gives everyone who's a butthead about 20-30 "1" votes as determined by their butthead rating and then finalizes the score.

The degree of buttheadedness for a particular entrant is determined by the SC at one of their many meetings in the Bahamas. Do you REALLY think your fees go to maintain and operate the site?

I fully expect this scathing expose of the inner workings of the SC and DPC voting to be deleted/suppressed by morning. I also expect that my reputation will be attacked, that many falsehoods and fabrications to make me look like a foil hat wearing lunatic will be spread across the site and ultimately, I will be, for my own safety, forced to go into hiding for revealing the true nature of the inner circle of DPC.
