I am sure this happens to many. You upload your image for the challenge. By far, it is not your best, but good enough you feel to pass the mustard test.
You ponder and ponder on the possibility of shooting a new replacement, ah, but that will go into a totally different image. Nor even conceived but certainly very different from the current one and you have the morbid feeling that this image belongs in the challenge.
So, you look again and there is something about it that does not quite put the positive desire to replace it. So much in fact that you do not seek nor even want a second opinion.
Well, to understand my dilemma, understand that I try to get off the beaten path for a challenge. For example, in the poverty challenge, I did not want to criple the viewers feelings with pictures of depressing unfortunate souls. Instead of showing poverty, I simply imply it. This effort has not been received by open arms. I guess members want to see the doleful expressions. I don't.
Once again, I want to avoid the common shot for music. There will be instruments, headphones, stacks of CD's and while all of these are nice I feel the perversity to make a simple implication and die with it. LOL, there probably is no salvation for my type. Curious about your experiences in this line.

I think I've got the same problem in Poverty. No poor people! But, you've gotta do what you've gotta do. Die trying! and all that, right? |

Can't help you, but now I know why you always seem to "get" my photos. A kindred spirit. |

A basic question to ask yourself: do you want to be a contender or do you only want to participate. However you answer that question determines the pictures you should submit.
I'll still respect you either way. You're a fine photographer, with your own fun style.
As for me. I enter ones I know will get low votes. I have no reputation to protect and I am not into the win-at-all-cost mindset. That's best reserved for making money. Be true to yourself, and you are already a winner. |

For me, time restraints imposed by the one week submission period usually hamper attempts to re-shoot with a different idea or even re-process a image in some cases. I would say it is unusuall to get it right the first time. An exception would be like the current October challenge, where I have the luxury to spend a little extra time - changing pictures and comparing some different processing efforts. Though October is an open topic challenge, Daniel's music dilemma is familiar. One has a shot that may have deficencies, technically or artistically - but you may feel contributes to the challenge, flaws and all. An absolute perfectionist might choose not to enter it. But how would we know the significance, if it is never entered into contention? |
