I tried my new D70 on a still life setup.

A branch from a tree with small apples in a vase, on a tablecloth.

This was taken in a completely dark room only lit by a small torchlight which was moved around to put the light at the right places (painting with light technique).

30 seconds exposure, F11.

Good job - very artistic. Left a comment on the picture.

Fantastic! I love it. The lighting is just beautiful. It must have taken a lot of tries to get the painted light just right.

Thank you all for you comments.

And yes, it did take a few tries, at first I got the focus on the background, then I forgot I had the camera still at ISO400, then I posted the image a photosig and got some good comments, so I made the setup again next day.

It is not that difficult to get the light on the subject right, the difficulty is in getting the light on the background right. Not totally dark, but certainly not too much light either. In the end I shielded the torch with my hand so light would not fall on the background while shining on the subject, followed by on slight sweep across the background behind the branch (not shining straight at it, just from the side, to get soft edges).
