Had a wee accident yesterday... nothing serious but thought I'd come looking for a little sympathy and a few hugs!

:o)

I fell whilst walking home - fell on my face, split my lip, broke half a tooth off and bruised and grazed myself all over.

Needed stitches in the lip, a root canal on the tooth (with a crown to follow) and have a swollen lip that's making me look like a duck.

If you don't mind a wee bit of blood have a look at this.

I really am a clumsy biatch!

EDIT: to add this update:

An update on my lip and tooth? I went to the dentist again today and he checked out the lip too - the cut was totally healed but the stitch thread was still attached so he kindly cut the thread away for me. And when I got home afterwards the last huge remaining scab on my lip came away too. So I feel much less self-conscious now. As for my teeth - he finished the root canal and took the impressions for the crown I'll be getting on the 19th, just before we go away. There's also a small chance the tooth next to the broken one was sufficiently hard hit that the root may also die but it may heal so it's wait and see time. I'm looking almost normal except for some shiny pink new skin - hope it eventually goes brown like the rest of me. In my lip I have this large solid area - doesn't show but feels very strange. Apparently it's down to damage to the saliva glands and will take several months to shrink away. It doesn't hurt so I can live with that.

Holy Cow Kavey!
Take it easy will ya?
Glad to hear it's all "fixable" anyway!

did you call your attorney yet ?
10/28/2004 07:22:04 PM · #7
Thanks folks... no I didn't call an attorney!
I will go and see whether there is any obvious problem with the paving which caused me to trip as if so I would like to ask the council to cover the costs of my dental treatments (since it's virtually impossible to get dental stuff on the health service and my insurance excludes it). I'm not after compensation particularly other than that.
BUT it may just be that I somehow managed to trip over myself, though I wasn't walking fast nor was I distracted...
I dunno!
Still... pain is vastly reduced since the root canal earlier today.
And my new sofa is arriving tomorrow.
It was on verge of being delivered on Wed and they rang Pete to check he was in and he had to explain he was driving me to hospital.
Bless them they called me earlier today, not to reschedule (though we did that) but to check I was OK as they were all concerned - the delivery guys and the warehouse guys.
Very sweet!

Poor poor Kavey Pie... that really sucks, girl!!! I am so sorry. I hate that happened to you, I know it had to be painful. Milk it for all it's worth so that Pete can wait on you hand and foot (and duck bill) for as long as you can get it! ;o)

Hope you feel better soon!! :o) {{{{{{{{{{{{{giant hug}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Sorry to hear it! Glad the pain's a little better. I knocked out my front tooth as a teenager when I was jumping on a pogo stick and hit some wet leaves on the driveway--whoosh!--face met pavement. Root canal etc. I try not to remember it, ugh.

What a dedicated photographer, though! You managed to take pictures in that condition?! :)

Hope you get well soon

Ha ha - no I didn't take pictures myself but I did insist Pete took some as soon as we got home from hospital... I just thought the duck beak shape of my top lip was hilarious...

Obviously you didn't see the bus..........

Seriously, that doesn't look like fun. Hope you get everything worked out and get healed up quickly.

If there are any raised stones / slabs etc on the pavement, take photographs first before you contact the council.

They will send out a repair team first to clear it up and then say that you were at fault...

Yeah that's a good point, thanks.
I meant to visit today but just got out of the bath and can't be bothered to get dressed.
Maybe tomorrow...

Thanks muchly for sympathy... I'm really not that bad now but well wishes do cheer one up more than you'd think!

:D

You should have chought it on "film" like amason did when he fell.
10/29/2004 10:48:09 AM · #16
lol I don't mean to laugh but thats to funny. I'm glad to hear your alright. Was alcohol to blame???
10/29/2004 10:48:59 AM · #17
I'm fine and no alcohol - had only been drinking water at lunch.

Thanks too to those who left comments on the image itself! Especially love the tip about the bra and ice. I'll resist that one I think as I'd probably freeze my muscles solid with that much ice! ;)

Having a self indulgent day - had a long hot bath, our new sofa arrived today AND a friend in the US sent me gorgeous bouquet of flowers as a get well present! What a sweetheart!

Ouch! Looks like that was quite painful. :( Hope you're feeling better soon, Kavey!
10/29/2004 01:50:33 PM · #20
Have you tried opening that photo is Photoshop and applying the healing tool?
10/29/2004 04:36:35 PM · #21
Bad luck Kavey, hope you feel better soon, I've had the lip stitches myself, it is pretty painful.
Paul.
10/29/2004 07:38:52 PM · #22
LOL just married - wish it was that easy!

Must admit that the lip around the stitches area is feeling strangely tender today - maybe it's just because the pain in the rest of the lip and nose area has receded and I'm noticing it more or maybe it's because the swelling has gone down a touch which means my lips meet again which means the lower lip is touching the stitches in the top lip.

Dunno... anyway, it hurts but to be honest it's not as bad as a bad migraine now so it's certainly bearable.

The duck shaped lip hasn't disappeared yet and I'm slightly worried it might not completely return to normal but, at the same time, it's hardly much in the grand scheme of things when you look at what some people have to go through.

Honestly, a few hugs and well wishes and I'm almost right as rain!

THANKS FOLKS!

Peecee - what did you do? Same thing?

Checked out pavement where I fell - there are some small uneven edges to a few paving slabs but NOTHING that one could take real issue with - the pavement is reasonably maintained in my opinion. I was just unlucky to trip on a slightly raised edge or perhaps slip on a fallen autumn leaf.

Ah well... the dental treatment won't bankrupt me, much as it's not an expenditure I was expecting!

Hope you feel better. I've had two bike accidents this summer, so I share your pain...

Edit. Look at the bright side--no one has added your blood stained pics to their favorites yet ;) (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Sorry about your accident.

Apparently, things in England aren't as they are here in the US. You tripped and fell, and accepted the fact that you were probably just in a clumsy state of mind. Here in the US, someone would hire a top lawyer and sue the property owner and if that didn't work, they would try and sue the shoe manufacturer for not having non-slip material or something else stupid. Like the lady who spilled hot coffee on herself and got burned, then sued McDonalds because they made the coffee too hot...or the lady that tripped and fell down a hillside into traffic and broke her arm (when she tried to cross a street 5 yards from where there was an actual sidewalk and walkway).
