I took this picture back in August of this year at one of my late uncles favorite places. He used to have his wife to take him there where he would sit in his wheel chair and just think/pray. He had a blood vessel problem in the brain that would eventually cause a brain hemorrhage that would take his life. He knew it was a matter of time. He first had a sudden brain hemorrhage in 1984 and survived against all odds but in 2000 the doctors found this the above problem, it was a ticking time bomb. He was a true inspiration, he always had a smile on his face, he was at piece with what was going to happen, he always would offer his help [what his body would allow] if you needed it. He passed in March of 2003 but like I said in the months prior to his death he loved sitting at this location, I guess tranquility. I like the picture but feel it̢۪s missing something. It was not a great day when I took the picture, over cast blew out the sky, but location is not close to home and I would find it hard to go back and take another picture. Any suggestions on how to better the photograph, I don̢۪t want to discard it because it has emotion to me.

I think it's an awesome photo with a great story behind it. If it means a lot to you then that's all that matters. In all honesty, if you want it to 'look better', you could try photoshopping it some, but in all actuality, it would be a lot easier if you had 20 shots of the area sitting on your computer to work with. Either way, I love the shot and it looks like a really peaceful area.

Here's something I tried with it... I used the virtual photographer plugin and applied the Sunset filter. Then I boosted the sats on the green and yellow, and made a layer using gaussian blur at 25%. I dodged and burned a little around the edges and on the reflections. Then I rotated it CW 1 degree and recropped slightly. But honestly, I agree with what deapee says about the fact that if it means a lot to you, that's all that matters. It does look like a beautiful and peaceful place. My condolences on the loss of your uncle.

Does this fit with your concept?

I rotated it just a bit to bring the opposite bank horizontal, applied soft focus, and increased contrast. I also used a touch of shadow/highlight and darkened it slightly at the top and bottom (using curves with a mask).
