If you remember my other post I was trying to decide what camera should be my next one. Well I have decided that it will be one of the Kodak Cameras. Now I can't make up my mind to which is more important Zoom or Mega Pixels. I am trying to decide between the DX7590 or the DX7630.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks everyone! :-) |

Megapixels really aren't the whole story - all the other features, capabilities and uses need to be considered, also. I am not completely familiar with the 7630 - but it is smaller, correct? Is size important? I know that the 7590 is Kodak's flagship model, and for good reason. If I get a chance, I will take a look at the 7630 to see what it offers.

Kylie's camera, the 7590, is awesome. I would think you would be happy with its feature set and capabilities. I can't imagine it getting better for a point and shoot than that. Granted, I'm biased, but don't let that alter your choice! :o) |

Kodak - DX7590
55mm adapter - Larger lens to let more light in for lower light situation.
10x optical zoom to get closer to your subject.
Kodak - DX7630
37mm adapter - Smaller lens so not as good in lower light situation.
3x optical zoom not as close to your subject.
Depending on the type of shots you like or expected to shot. I think the 10X zoom of the DX7590 makes up for having to crop if using the DX7630.

The only advantage I see for the 6 megapixel 7630 over the 5mp 7590 would be that you could print about 20% larger, but unless large prints is a very high priority for you the 7590 clearly is the better choice. |

The width of the lens is only partially to do with how well the lens copes in low light conditions. The aperture isn't totally related to lens width. otherwise a DSLR with be f/1 and a P&S would be f/22!
According to DPReview the lenses have the follow apertures, which are the only lens factors directly effecting coping in low light:
DX7950: F2.8 - F8.0
DX7630: F2.8 - F4.8 / F8.0

Sorry I didn't get to research that for you, but seeing what was posted, you are making the right decision!! 1 megapixel makes no difference to me at all. You will love the 7590 and will be able to do a lot with it! Congrats!
