I am looking at the catalouge, and im a bit confused. Do the lighting units contain both a Steady 100W bulb PLUS a flash bulb? im so confused! GAH I really need to read up on flash/studio lighting, as I want to buy some ASAP.

| yep, it has both. The 100w bulb is just a modeling light. |

Im no strobe expert, but I think a modeling light is a light that is on before the strobe so you can compose your shot. Click the shutter and then the modeling light will go away and the strobes will fire.

| The modeling light lets you see where the shadows are going to fall from that particular light source. The alien bees let you vary the modeling light according to the power output you've set on the strobe. With matched power lights this means you can see the effect of the lighting ratios. It falls appart if you use different powered strobes though, as the percentage reductions on each modeling light don't reflect the relative differences between the strobes. |
