Michael Moore has done it again. The student council at Cal State San Marcos voted 12-3 to invite Michael Moore to speak on campus on October 15. The students had raised $6,500 of the reported $37,000 fee leaving the college footing the rest of the bill. However, it turns out state law prohibits the college from using taxpayer money for partisan activities, so the students managed to raise $41,000 in private donations to pay for his visit. Now Michael Moore states he won't come unless state funds are used to pay his fee. He's refusing to take any private funds. He states it's a FREE SPEECH issue. But it's not a free speech issue! It's a $37,000 state funded FEE SPEECH issue. He's perfectly welcome to come here and speak all he wants for FREE! And I thought Republicans were supposed to be the greedy ones.

Why on earth do COLLEGE students feel the need to hear from some lazy, no good lying fat bastard that dropped out of college because he was TOO LAZY TO FIND PARKING EVERY DAY for his noon classes (his own admission).

If we get far enough, Michael Moore will be remembered as a hero of our time.

I think you got your story wrong.

Here is a version from Wednesday am:

Moore Addresses Students In Speech That Almost Didn't Happen

Michael Moore addressed California State San Marcos students Tuesday night in a speech that was almost not going to happen.

University President Karen Haynes canceled the filmmaker's visit to the campus because she refused to spend state money on partisan politics, and she didn't have enough time to bring another speaker whose viewpoints could balance Moore's liberal bent.

The cancellation caused an uproar on campus, and the student government raised money on its own to finance Moore's visit, which cost $37,000.

Moore spoke at the Del Mar Fairgrounds as part of a 60-city "Slacker Uprising Tour" tour to urge students to vote.

DEL MAR ΓΆ€“ A crowd of 10,000 sang "America The Beautiful" Tuesday night along with filmmaker Michael Moore and folk-singing icon Joan Baez.

And so, Moore brought his Slacker Uprising Tour to town, attracting 10 times the audience he would have had if he had not been banned from Cal State San Marcos.

The fairgrounds audience consisted mostly of students, to whom Moore had given free tickets.

Since the Cal State San Marcos student government raised $45,000 on its own to sponsor his appearance off campus, Moore announced that he would donate all proceeds to a special "hellraiser" scholarship at the university. He said $5,000 would go to whichever student defied the administration most successfully.

I think "sink deep enought" is more accurate. ;)

Actually, Tom had the story exactly correct, as it stood at the time he posted it three weeks ago. The interesting thing is that while the original date was scheduled around the 15th, it seems he snuck into town a little early.

Also, and interesting aside to this story: Sean Hannity, Michael Medved and perhaps other conservative commentators (seems I remember someone else, but I can't think who off the top of my head) have challenged Michael Moore to open up one or more of his speeking-to-the-choir shutins and actually debate him on the issues of the campaign. Notably, Hannity offered to debate Moore in his appearance in Utah earlier this week. And, it was Hannity who suggested that the winner of the debate gets the speeking fee, to be donated to the charity of the winners choice. But still, Moore hides from critics of his propoganda. Hmmm.

I'm NOT a MM fan. SEen his movies, don't buy his stuff for a second. He's got his own political agenda and bends information just like any President or VP.

I found his consistent comparison of Canada and the US to be borish and trite.

But that's one fat white girl's opinion.

:-)

The toughest interview MM has ever done was on the View... And he looked like a complete fucking retard after even the slightest challenge. BTW, the "tougher than normal" interview was a complete suprise to MM...

Boy, does that guy ever bug me.

He reminds me of a pimp who feeds off of a child's innocence and yearning for truth and love for nothing more than personal gain.

He loves a good photographer. Every truth seeker does; photographs played a large part in stopping the Vietnam War.

what is more noble, sending our boys to die in useless wars, or writing documentaries about the whole debacle?

Photographs played a large part in the rise of Hitler and the third reich - a more apt comparison.

Maybe you should read the whole law:

whoever points out that Godwin's Law applies to the thread is considered to have lost the battle, as it is considered poor form to invoke the law explicitly. [/quote]
