I'm looking to add a Wide angle lens to my collection and would like some suggestions. I have a Canon 10D and want to buy a lens that won't break the bank but on the other hand I don't want anything cheap either. I've been looking at Sigma but I'm not that familiar with their lens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Dale

Anything over $600.00 would break my Bank!

Check them out here. I have the 17-40 4.0L and it is worth the extra money. The link is a list of canon lenses and prices. Good luck.

Reading the reviews Sigma has a very good reputation with lens that rival the marque lens. Of the independants they and the ATX Tokinrange are good value for money.

I don't think you can find too many faults with the Sigma 12-24.
It depends what sort of wide you want. If you want a regular lens that goes wide enough, then the 17-40, or the 24-70 Canons are good if you want to fork out the extra dosh.

I have to chime in for the 17-40 F/4 L as well. Very good sharpness and color.

Canon 17-40 F/4 L is just over your budget. You can sure find some used / mint condition pieces below 600. This lens is worth the price.

EOS D60, just no time to enjoy it, going to cut back to something that doesn't intimidate my wife. Mint, perfect condition, all packaging included. I appear to be new here because I lost my password and my email changed, but please look at my ebay rating:

In any case, I prefer to sell face to face to someone in the Monterey Bay - San Francisco bay area.

$700, or $1400 with perfect 17-40L and 50 1.8 II

Dusty, I don't think you have any choice left. Just buy the 17-40 ;)

Thank you all for the advice! I will definately look into the 17-40L!!! Maybe I can find a used one? If I can't find one I just won't tell my wife about the extra that I'll have to fork out!! Please don't tell her! Not real sure where to look though. Again, thank you all.

I gotta recommend the Sigma 12-24.

All of these were done with the Sigma 12-24 @12mm. I looked at the 17-40 too, but it was just not wide enough.

Spaz,

Those look great :) I'm pretty 'stuck' on the 12-24 also. It has a couple disadvantages compared to the 17-40 f/4L, but its badass wide and I like that :)

Spaz, those are definately fantastic photos, WOW! Now you've made my decision that much harder, LOL. Thank you!

Sorry to muddy your waters, but for Canon, it's the widest thing going. Unless you want a fisheye or have a 300D or 20D and can get the new 10-22.
