I have three cards a 1GB card for my D70 and two 256mb cards for my nikon 4300

1 512mb and 2 256mb compact flash cards and 4 256mb Xd cards and 1 16mb Xd card. I download the images from the cards on the day they are shot and format the card immediately after downloading. I do not back up on CD anywhere near as much as I should....I'm just doing March of this year now. I got spoiled with an 80 gig hard drive. But, since the fuji at full jpeg give 4-5mb files for each image, the drive gets loaded up a LOT quicker! I'm down to 9GB free, well just shy of 10GB, but I just shot a gig plus today and almost a gig yesterday so I got to keep at it.

Do I ever feel inadequate.. (as usual).. all I have is one 64MB CF card, with a 512MB CF in the mail. (Who knows when it'll show up though).

I also have a 128MB SD card, but I have absolutely no use for it.. so if anyone here wants to trade a 128MB SD card for a 128MB CF card.. let me know.

I have four 128 MB Memory Sticks (about 60 shots on a stick) and a 32 MB that I only use as a last resort. When I'm around home, I use only one 128 MB stick that I empty on my computer almost every day and then format.

When I'm travelling, I carry a 40GB portable hard disk to which I copy the sticks when they're full, and then I try not to format the sticks until I've had a chance to check everything at home (I've got the 40GB only for a couple of months now, and I'm not really trusting it yet :-). So far, the four sticks were just enough for a two-week trip, but this fall I'm going to do a "grape harvesting and wine making" photo trip, so I may need to rely on the portable 40GB for real this time!

I write my pictures to CD (and keep them on the computer) about once or twice a month, but I think I should do this more often. Last year, I lost A WHOLE YEAR worth of pictures when my computer was stolen from my home, and I didn't have backups (AAAARRGH!!).

Interesting suggestion.

But, I already make use of two 512 MB USB 2.0 keys and a freebie 128 MB that I picked up from a vendor. Mostly I use the USB keys for MPEG-4 video clips and they by far exceed the small capacity of the extra 64 MB CF cards. But, the idea of using them for JPEG images going to the photo-finisher is an excellent recommendation. Thanks for the tip.

2-256mb,1-128mb,&2-free16mb(they come with the cameras)
i always clean the cards no matter what the size saving the images to an exturn. Hard Drive (250GB-for photo storage) then i can do what i want with my main HD and i don't have to worry about formatting a card and lossing images.

-it works for me-

After the event I will copy the files to hard disk for editing, which will be left on the hard disk for a few months then backed up to DVD-R.

Same here, except I have 4 or 5 256's and 2- 512's

i carry 2 512's (looking for a possible 1g soon), and i always download the photos immediately when i get to the PC, and also back them up right away.
i had a "near-loss" experience with my photos a year or so ago, and i got so freaked out that i dont' put off the backups anymore.

I have 12 x 256MB's... why you ask? well I've had the misfortune of having a card go bad some time ago...and since then, I decided that I'd rather loose 30 shots...then 100 on a 1G.. it's a bit like a failsafe.
