I can be bribed - and it was fun - I have commented on all the photos - thanks for the motivation

Your comments don't need to be marked as helpful to count, but they should be thoughtful, and be more than 'nice shot' or things along those lines. If you mention the score you gave people on all the comments, and be honest, then you can have 2 free prints.

There are only 69 photos, it isn't really that many.

Hopefully this will encourage people to really look at the entries in more detail and by being honest and leaving scores it will help the photographers learn too.

Just reply to this thread when you're finished and I'll check to make sure you really did comment at the end of the voting week, at which time I'll PM you about the freebies :)

Happy commenting!

Does someone crave comments? ;-) Was planning on doing this anyways given time! I'm way behind on comments...

But hey, a (almost) free print...

Did you ever get the problem with the frames sorted out with the admins?
10/02/2004 07:12:21 AM · #31
I don't have time for that, I need to take some photo's to submit to a site called DPChallenge...
:-)
10/02/2004 02:55:59 PM · #32
Commented and left score on all the pictures
10/02/2004 05:04:24 PM · #33
Was going to submit to all, but gave up after selecting the ones I thought were top 25%

Some are just average, some had no thought whatsoever. There are a good number that stand out and hopefully those are the ones I have selected.

It was a worthy challenge, but I'm afraid that I am not over impressed by a lot. Maybe they should come down here with me and start again.

Against all my initial thoughts, it has been a good challenge and I hope the ones I chose will surface as the winners. Good Luck!

A print. Oh, it's a print. All this time I was worrying about whether Ben was old enough to buy all that beer.

Yeah, Drew sorted it all out. I do like the framing, but will probably do my own for future purchases (only due to cost -> walmart frames are cheaper = )

I've commented and left my score on everybody's shots, but I don't think I'll take you up on your generous offer. I'll let you know if I change my mind though!
10/03/2004 10:19:22 AM · #37
I left comments on all 69 also. It was good mental challenge. Some of the photos I wouldn't change anything on, but I might have played around with levels and lighting. Anyway, like BobsterLobster, I'll pass on your offer also. Thanks.

I'm sure this is not your intention, Ben, but it could be interpreted as an attempt to solicit patting each other on the back for a job well done.

After all, the best photographers on the sight are the ones that need comments the least and most comments are little more than "Great shot!" statements anyway and have little true constructive criticism.

Energy might better be spent commenting on the low scoring images (1s, 2s and 3s) as suggested in the voting guidlines.

Photo newbies are the ones that benefit most from constructive criticism of their submissions.
10/03/2004 12:01:47 PM · #39
Well that may be the case for some people, but personally I commented on all the shots, and almost all of my comments were far from 'pats on the back' and offered suggestions/critisism, etc. The reason for this thread was to encourage people to make comments that werent pats on the back. If pats on the back is all that 'masters' recieve, which is often the case, then how are they going to improve? I believe everyone can improve, but not if they aren't told how.

I agree with you.

What is important to note is that the folks that need the comments the most are generally the ones that get them the least. Folks need to be mindful of that more than helping the better photographers fine tune their skills.

Photo newbies and photo oldbies alike can benefit from studying photos critically. Making comments can be more valuable than recieving them. I think that was the intent of the intent of the challenge.

wooow
I'm in
But who is interested in a newbie comment?
10/03/2004 12:35:49 PM · #44
I just finished voting. I commented on all the shots, and thought that overall this was a great challenge. My comments often had to do with my own personal tastes rather than technical merit.

All in, well done everyone, looking through those entries reminded me why I keep clicking this website.
10/03/2004 10:03:39 PM · #45
I did it, commented on all the entries AND put my scores.
10/04/2004 02:58:13 PM · #46
Hope everyone in the Masters challenge has recieved / seen their comment from me.

Commented and gave you all a score too, hope they are ok!! If there's anything any of you want to discuss, just give me a shout :-)
10/04/2004 11:40:56 PM · #47
I commented with some pretty serious detail on all of them.

I've learned quite a bit in the process.

OK - I posted comments on them all. I did not put scores on them, but will tell you my average score was 7.145.

Ben,

When you verify my 100% comments, I'd appreciate any feedback you have as to the "quality" or "validity" of the comments as you see them.

I have been one of the recipients of all this - and thank you all enormously for all your thoughts. I have no expectation of doing particularly well in the challenge, and thought the amount of commenting was a bit odd for such an 'average' photo - now I know why :-)

I shall endeavour to repay some of the time spent, but on the wildlife challenge, I think.

I've added comments to all in the Master Challenge. It took be around 2.75 hours to get them all. The good thing is -- now my comments given is higher then my comments received. I'd really like to keep it that way.

Good Luck to all in this challenge!
