The front part of the lens where the focussing ring is located is loose on my camera. If you are looking down at the camera at the top as if you were to shoot with it the front lens is loose by about a 1/16th of an inch and only on the left side. I suspect it is a result of using teleconverters with their added weight. I'm sure it is a simple fix by Sony but the service charges for even a simple repair will be a lot and I would like to avoid that if I could. Has anyone had any similar problems and fixed it themselves? I am very uncertain about attempting this unless I knew I could do it without damaging the camera further. I'm afraid if I don't fix it soon then it might get worse or even detach altogether. What are some of your thoughts? As of now the camera still functions perfectly but I don't know for how long. I can post a picture of the problem if it is neccessary. Thanks.

I do not suggest trying to fix this yourself. I've had customers bring in the camera after trying this repair and frankly it's made it worse. If you want to attempt the repair, there's a couple threads on DPReview covering the basics. The repair is about $200, and one of the few worth it repairs from Sony.

this is a very comon problem on the 7x7 cameras, if you do a search on Dpreview.com in the sony Talk forum you will find step by step instructions to make the repairs yourself

Thanks for your help Clara. I found the step by step instructions you referred to. Since I haven't had a beer yet and I am generally pretty good at this sort of thing I am going to attempt the repair myself. It looks pretty simple if I am organized. I'll let you know if I have to resort back to my Canon Digital Elph for the rest of my pics ;)

It's fixed! This is so cool. I'm sure glad I didn't spend $200 to have it fixed since it was so incredibly easy with the instructions. Thanks so much.
