Canon
EOS 10D, 6.3 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera Kit with Hitachi 2GB -1369.95
Canon
Normal EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens -69.95
Canon
Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer-409.95
Sigma
Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-105mm f/3.8-5.6 UC III Aspherical IF-119.00

Good investment? This brings me to my budget of 2k including shipping. I plan on using this for wedding photography. Any changes or recommendations? |

I don't see why you would need the sigma 28-105 if you are getting the Canon 28-135 IS? It doesn't give you any additional range.
The only thing missing from this kit is either a longer zoom (75-300) range or wider (18mm) or so.

this is just what was recommended that i get. So your saying i shouldnt get that because it doesnt give you additional range. Sounds great i will definetly look into that. Thank you very much. |

You are going to need a faster lens for consistenlty good indoor wedding photos. |

For close indoor wedding photography I'd consider the new Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR. |

i just checked on the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR it shows its about 370... a little pricy. Would you advise that one over the

I think they are much slower than the faster CF cards that are available today. Also more fragile. There is glass inside where the data is written to so it can shatter. Also the small mechanical parts can get jared loose, etc.
I purchased a 2BG Micro Drive a couple weeks ago and sent it back and got the SanDisk Ultra II 1GB instead. This card is very nice and fast.
With the prices of CF memory coming down I would recommend CF instead of Micro Drive.
Disclaimer: this is my opinion and I'm sticking to it. :o)

Keep in mind that the IS is only going to help you out in low light situations where the subject is still. It does not reduce motion blur by the subject. You will need a fast lens. $400 is not pricey for such a high quality lens. The Tamron lens is a top notch lens.

^ What Bill said ^
As well as that, the I believe the IS only compensates for one stop of light?? So that will make the lens f/2.8-4.0, which still isn't wonderful.
The 28-135 is a lot more zoom, of course.. |

sounds like it comes highly recommended so i guess i should probably get rid of the Sigma
Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 28-105mm f/3.8-5.6 UC III Aspherical IF-119.00 and shell out another 260 for the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR |

Unless you get a bulk-buy deal I wouldn't recommend buying the lenses at the same time. Buy one or two at the same time and see what you think. The 28-135 and 28-75 overlap massively, so buying both doesn't make a great deal of sense. Personally I would buy the 28-75 first and see how you go. |

If i were to buy all this stuff at once do you think the place where im buying it from ( bhphotovideo.com ) would offer me a discount. |

I agree, Paul. You can always buy more after you find out what it really is you need. More than likely one of these lenses would always be sitting in your bag with very little use. I would go with the Tamron and then add the Canon or whatever lens you need after the fact. The Tamron with the 28-75mm (44.8-120mm 35mm eql.) is a very nice walk about leave on the camera all the time lens. Plus, you will get high quality pics and have the speed when you need it.

Although I love my 28-135 IS, I would probably agree that the Tamron 28-75 2.8 is a better buy for your needs. Make sure you get a good copy. With the extra $$$ you save from not getting the Canon, get yourself a Sigma 70-300mm APO zoom. I shot a wedding for a friend a couple of months ago, and the zoom range came in very hany when I coulnd't get close to the action.
You might also want to think about a flash unit. The built ones are CRAP!

Mario,
Do you have any example shots taken with your Sigma 70-300mm APO? Maybe some from that wedding? I have been considering this lens for a little while now.
Thanks!

I don't know the Tamron. The Sigma came highly reccomended as the best for it's price. I like it but will be probably upgrading to a 70-200 2.8 from Sigma in the not so distant future. In the mean time it does pretty well.
Here is a link to the full gallery from that wedding. There was no OFFICIAL photographer, only a few friends who were adked to shoot some pictures, so most of the shots are of a more CANDID nature. Some were posed, but not many. Most of the shots in the church are using the Sigma 70-300 APO. The remainder were taken with a Canon 28-105 3.5-4.5

Very nice! Thanks so much for sharing! It looks like the lens does a good job.
