Ok its on its way. Any hints and tips with using it?
Example might be paper, which ones from Epson are the best what other ones also work well and are cheaper.

As far as paper goes I like the Luster the best. It is great for portraits and my clients love the look also. Right now I am using the Epson 2200 so please tell me what your thoughts are on the R800.
Thanks

I use epson professional media : Premium Luster Photo Paper and get great results - I'd really recommend this paper. It isn't quite as detailed as the Epson Photo Glossy paper, but you get about 10x the sheets per pack for about the same price. The glossy paper is great for very sharp, detailed, glossy prints.
The enhanced matte professional paper is also good, though again less detailed and slightly muddier in the shadows than both the lustre and gloss papers.
I've also been playing with lumijet woven fibre art papers - great texture and feel with a creamyness to the whites. Good for black and whites but again slightly muddy in the shadows, like most matte papers I've tried so far. Certainly a specialist application paper though - not for general use.
If you are going to print CDs, the results are pretty good. It is worth, just for CDs, bumping the saturation up about +2 to get good results though.

Another vote here for the Premium Luster photo paper. I've used it with my 2200 for quite a few months now... prints look wonderful!

The Epson R800 is here!!!! Yeah!!!
Just set it up and printed on the 3 sheets provided and did a print on A4 all borderless. And WOW. Could not tell the difference between chemical printing or this!
The prints are a little bit darker than the screen so I need to make some minor adjustments..
Happy Happy Happy! Bob

I also have the R800 and only use Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper. Prints turn out great every time. |

I was using that paper and loved it.
However, I have recently switched to the Premium Semi-gloss and much prefer that. In particular it is far better with fingerprints, or lack thereof, and I simply prefer the finish (though that is just down to personal taste).
The one tip I read, and use myself, is that if you print CD's up the saturation a couple of notches from the default or they look washed out.
As for print quality ... it rocks!

It certainly does... Thanks to Epson only putting in 3 measly 6x4 papers to test I have had to use some 3rd party pro glossy paper and even with that it is simply amazing!
Best print quality I have ever seen and that was on an A4 borderless print. I thought it had not picked the paper up but it was actually printing it is sooo quiet!

I've gotten a pack of Epson A4 Prem Semi-Gloss, and cut in half, so I can do A5 prints.
Whenever I choose "Epson Premium Semi Gloss", and Borderless when printing thru Photoshop, It defaults to A4, and I can't select my default 210mm X 148.5mm paper size.
Any thoughts? |

I haven't printed at A5, could you set up a custom setting and save that, then all you would have to do is select that setting each time.

Anyone seen problems with ink drops ?
I was printing a B&W last night - turned out beautifully, apart from one or two red ink drops towards the edges of the paper. The print was a 5x7 in the center of a letter sized sheet with the red drops at the edges, almost like they'd been 'shaken' off. Looks like someone bled over the print.
This was with enhanced matte settings, on lumijet woven rag paper, slow speed.

All the Ilford papers are great also, but Epson luster has to be the best. |
